Hi all. I'm a electronics and racing enthusiast and i had a go at "trying" to build a pretty much 100% Diy motion rig.
Sorry for my poor English and photo taking skills..

My original idea was to build stepper motor driven actuators but.. That was a bit harder than i expected haha. Mainly because i was trying to make the steppers hold a position with a simple analog pot.. Bad idea i know now haha..

So back to the drawing board and i came up with a kind of overkill but sturdy design for the actuators.
Mind you i don't have welding equipment nor any real metal working tools so i did everything with a 3d printer and a few simple tools. IMG-20190730-WA0000.jpeg
    IMG-20190811-WA0000.jpeg
Thinking a simple acme rod would be enough to push roughly 50kg hahah... Nope can't do..
    So i ordered these

    IMG_20190907_212023.jpg

Then it was time for the electronics...
I started out actually trying to design and build my own H bridges and although they worked fine it was way overcomplicated and overbuild..
    IMG-20190915-WA0005.jpeg

So after almost frying my psu i went with a more compact and simpler solution haha.

    IMG-20191019-WA0008.jpeg

Also tried to find a cheap and fast dc motor and i had a battery powered angle grinder laying around and it had a pretty beefy 18v very fast dc motor in it. So I bought another one and thats how i sourced my motors ^^
    20191025_124456.jpg

This is where i am atm. The frame...
Tomorrow i will post my progress from today.
Hope you guys enjoy my rookie mistakes and poor craftsmanship ^^

Did some full weight testing just now and damn what power is in those tiny motors!
At first i was afraid that they lack torque as they're made for speed but boy was i wrong!
Also i figured the weight of me and the rig itself was enough to keep the actuators from lifting out of the sockets/feet but they definitely need some reinforcement asap!
Now i need to figure out a way to permanently link them to floor so they don't lift up anymore...
Also the belts are quite noisy.. Any ideas how to silence them?

Ps: Funfact. The belts are from a old broken (mainboard) T300

Had some issues with the position pots slipping out of sync.
    20191112_162010.jpg
So i made a little notch in the axle and printed a better version.

The "jerk" is there. But indeed after the 4th gear almost unnoticeable.
Today i'm going to play around with the pid settings :thumbs
Also i'm running a 30amp psu atm and ordered a 50amp for some extra oomph
Motors although tiny run perfectly cool with some help from a couple of 100mm fans.
But so far i love it! And i will never ever go back to a static rig :grin

Are these type 570 motors, looks similar to the ones on my daughter's toy kart.
can't believe they work so well on a rig.
I think one of these is around 150w maybe?

type 895. 18v 15amp so 270w the diameter is 5.8cm so quite a bit bigger than standard batterypowered powerdrill motors ;)
As i said they look small but have plenty torque and speed.
I could probably get away with a even larger gear to pulley ratio because of the speed.

    got it, thanks.
    I searched its price(less than 10usd),
it's quite a cheap power source,
I will try this when I build an actuator.

Yup i took one from a old battery powered angle grinder and ordered another one of banggood for 13 euro.
But remember to keep them cool as they lose power pretty quickly when they get hot. Also the carbon brushes are wearing pretty fast with this amount of amps so its not a perfect solution..

    Hi Joey
    great work!! congratulation!
Just a short question because I like the visual impression of your race game. Which game is it and what settings? (snow, daytime,...?)

Assetto with loads of mods .
I believe its set to winter textures without snow and the time of day is 9:00am
Early morning and evening drives are the best. ;)
