I just did a clean install of Windows 10, and where previously I had it working perfectly, I can no longer get Openvr Input Emulator installed, without causing SteamVR to go in to Safe mode. Very frustrating.

Tried another fresh Windows install, steamvr still will only start in safe mode when input emulator is installed. this really sucks!

Hi @kparkin I had the same issue. Everything started going haywire and i was getting errors on all different types of VR Apps and steamVR was forcing into safe mode - couldnt get out of it either.
How exactly did you do this fix it? Just a simple install of that .dll file worked?
Are you on SteamVR beta or regular?

Also, which VR HMD are you using? I'm on the Valve Index currently.

Hi Michael, I have a Valve Index also, which as been misbehaving, at least I hope it has, lost sound as well. I have a replacement on it's way, so I'll find out soon. I had a first batch HMD.
What I did in the end was to uninstall openvr input emulator, delete the input emulator folder in programs, then do a system search for openvr and delete all the files. Uninstall steamvr, then another system search for steamvr an delete files.
Restart windows, reinstall steamvr beta and openvr input emulator then patch the .dll file.
If you are already on steamvr beta, it will automatically install that when you reinstall.
Doing the system deleting seems to be the only way to get rid of safe mode, which seems to stay even when openvr emulator is removed.
    Hope this works for you.

I just uninstalled OpenVR through windows programs, and then reinstalled SteamVR/SteamVR Beta and it went away. I'm thinking of Redoing it since you mentioned it started working for you after you use the patched .dll file.

Is your Index acting up because of OpenVR? or is it because of something else?

I dont want to mess with it if it'll cause my index to go bad or something.

I've had some tracking issues and disconnected headset alerts. It wasn't showing up in device manager correctly until I managed to get rid of what I assume were corrupted drivers.
Trouble was this involved a fresh install of windows and all the grief associated with that action.

Understood. But does the motion cancellation work on the Valve Index?

Ive been trying the Valve Index with 4-dof from pt-actuators that i got working this week and the EMI is causing interference also where i cant even touch the headset or else i get gray-outs. I bought Ferrite magnets which will hopefully help from what I'm hearing.

    Yes motion cancellation works.
I had terrible problems with EMF when I was trying a Vive pro, it was totally unusable and was returned. The DD wheel I had at the time also affected it.
I get a grey-out if I hold the sides of the Index but it is fine other than that, just have to change how it is handled.
Make sure that you have no reflective surfaces near by as well.

I came from a Pimax 5k+ which i still have but have had issues getting it to read the base stations again so i havent reinstalled it.

With the Index, I have the same issue. Gray-out if i touch the sides. Thats why im trying to install these ferrite magnets to compensate.

If Motion Compensation works, then i will try it.

Also, what did you use for a tracker? I have my vive wands still and I can attach one to the rig, like some other people have been doing.
Is setting up OpenVR a pain in the ass or is it fairly simple to get working?

I use a Vive Tracker mk2, works really well.
Openvr is very straight forwards. Press the system button to enter the dashboard and select openvr. I can't remember what all the drop downs are called right now, but it's pretty easy.

Thank you for answering my questions. I appreciate it. Doing the whole motion rig took me about a week to start figuring everything out. a HUGE PIA and I didnt even add the TL platform yet

But I noticed my view drifting which I knew right away was due to motion compensation

    Thank you again!

    Hi MJ,
I had my view drift and skew while tracking a ton before I sorted out how to mount the tracker (2018) properly.
I found the best solution was to mount the tracker as close, and as rigidly, to my head as possible. It seems that the tracker is really sensitive to mid-high range vibrations, and reducing them goes a long way to attaining a stable motion setup.
I went a step further and mounted the whole playseat and platform to the upper motion rig platform via elastic dampeners (EVA foam wraps), further reducing vibrations caused by me, the wheel, the speakers and rumblers travelling back down the setup to the tracker mount.

If you find the drift is always in one direction, if there is a base station in the exact opposite direction you are drifting then that tracker is probably getting a reflection somewhere.

    Hope this helps someone
