    Yo!
Im Viktor, computer scientist from Iceland.

Looking forward to test the software with an Arduino. Im going to buy a racing wheel soon, and will probably start by creating a simple vibrating cushion which will respond when the car goes off track for example.

There's a lot of information on the site, so it's a bit much for a newcomer. Any tips where to start reading documentation?

    Thanks @noorbeast .

I will start going through some of those.

I used the custom Google search and clicked the top result when searching Arduino. I thought I was searching for forum posts, so I just clicked it.

So it turns out the top result is a PDF attachment and I "invested" ten of my points on that. Would be nice if there were a confirmation box making sure you want to download attachments. "Are you sure you want to spend 10 points on this attachment" for example.

    Cheers

That would be a matter for our site admin @RaceRay to consider.

As I suggested the FAQs are the place to start, here are the existing Arduino code options, if you are looking to drive motion I would suggest you try SMC3 first, as it has a handy app to make configuration easy: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/arduino-code-for-use-with-various-hardware-and-simtools.31/

    Hi All,
my Name is Peter Wickelmaier (alias Wickie) and I am from Germany, Munich.
I am a mechanical engineer and I love developing mechanical things since I was a child.
My current passion is Virtual Reality. And pairing it with a good Simulator seems to be great. So I searched for DIY Sim making in the web and found this great community. I found a lot of inspiring ideas - so first thanks to all you guys!
Looking for a cheap and powerful Motor and Controller solution I also found the "Odrive" electronic that seems to be perfect to drive a DIY actuator.
I started my actuator-building thread in the Odrive-community end of 2018 and now my actuator-prototype is ready. I think now its a good time to share my Project and keep you up to date with building my complete Simulator...
I will call my thread "Wickie´s 6DOF Sim"
    Peter

    Hi All!

I'm Carlos 'Bruschi', from Brazil. I found this forum searching about simulators on internet.
Well, my dream is built my own cockpit 2dof using arduino. I don't know nothing about how to connect all compontens (arduino, servos, software configs). At first, I will start using a notebook, arduino Uno board, servos (used in airmodel) and softwares needed.
I think this way I will not spend much money to learn how to build the simulator. After understant how all this works, I will change the servos with motors e build the cockpit.

If someone can help with the basic list to start, I will be very happy!
Well, here is what a have now.
    Notebook
    Arduino Uno
    2 servos
Simtools Game Engine and Gamemanager (I downloaded here in this site).

Is it enough to put the servos to work?

    Thank you!

Hi just to introduce myself, Howard from Manchester England I’m a specialist fabricator / welder / machinist & metrology inspector looking at knocking up a motion simulator, I’d say I’ve come to the right place to tap the wealth of knowledge you guys have gathered here. Nice site you’ve got here btw, thanks for having me!
I’m not sure if I can offer you guys any knowledge about fabrication and materials that you don’t already know but I’ve worked with pretty much every type of metal going over the past 20 odd years including titanium & exotics metals for Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Chemical sectors etc so if I can help anyone along the way I’d be over the moon.
I’m pretty good with computers, would like to increase my electronics knowledge which is limited to say the least but I’m good at soldering and keen to learn.
Been into racing games since the dawn of computers / consoles and knocked up a nice polished aluminium frame to hold a bucket seat many moons ago when the Logitech G25 1st came out in the mid 2000s and I realised needed a more substantial base before I ripped the computer table apart playing Colin McRae & Grid on the PC.
Im finding myself browsing direct drive steering wheels and simulators all the time recently now I have a bit more free time on my hands &stumbled across your site here.
The DOF Reality P3 or P6 look right up my street, not too badly priced either I thought but it’s much more satisfying to build something personally, plus it gives a much better working knowledge of the equipment /software so I’m going to give your forums a good read and brush my knowledge up on 3dof for yaw /traction loss & the full 6dof systems look amazing so this is the way I’d like to go really provided I don’t need a masters degree to achieve it?! Maybe get some ideas from other people’s blueprints (read plagiarise)? And hopefully use the advice of the battle hardened to avoid some common pitfalls.
My budget is whatever it needs to be really. I know it will be in the thousands but obviously the more money saved means more for other bits of sim kit, direct drive wheels & extra monitors etc.
Limited time with work & kids has seen me using the PS4 & Xbox one X more for convenience but I’m pretty sure most sim software available is useless outside of PC architecture but I’m sure I’ll find that out with some research?
Gives me something interesting & creative to read up on for a change in the mean time anyway so off I go down the rabbit hole :)
    Cheers H.

    Welcome @Howie.

Sounds like you have a pretty good skill set for motion sim building.

A 6DOF is not beyond a newcomer, but it is a substantial project and not one top dive into too quickly. Spend plenty of time researching, planning and asking sensible questions, long Before you start ordering parts.

    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, Motion platform
    Hello!
Just popping in to introduce myself here. I am John from Norway and I recently started a 2DOF project. I was searching for something to improve my flightsim experience a notch and stumbled across this page.
I've been working previously with airplanes, electronics etc. and I really enjoy mechanical work as well. An article from @Zennix inspired me: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/zennix-2dof-brushless.12620/
(among other articles). Basically my actuators will be powered by brushless motors, and currently I am creating CAD for my design. Some basic parts are ordered now for the actuator that is based on Zennix's design and currently I am looking for alu-profiles to surround the actuator design. Luckily I do own a 3D-printer, so any possible missing small parts can be printed. I would really like to see more technical drawings here as the dimensioning of base frame, seat frame etc. is not so easy to find. I did however find the SimCalc Beta and trying to use that when improving the frame design. I am using Fusion 360 as CAD tool. I have started also on the CAD for the framework. Budget? ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Possible) :)
Hope to share some design and experiences on the forum and also to gain a lot of knowledge from both the forum members and the project itself.
    John

AC motor, Arduino, Motion platform, 6DOF
    Hello,

This is Wojtek from Poland. I have just finished the project of 6DOF motion platform based on the AC servos. I have designed the mechanical part as well as the software for the controller (Arduino based) and the PC software (working with Sim Tools). I am using the platform for the flight simulator (X-Plane). I want to use it with DCS, however I am a bit worry about the situation when being "shot down", as the motion response is really unpleasant then. Perhaps somebody could advise me on this case. Of course, I could use a kind of the threshold limiting the input acceleration along/around the axes but maybe there is another solution out there.

    Wojtek

Hi, my name is Phil, I have been sim racing for20+ years but I've never been in a position to step into motion. I have an 8020 racing rig with a csw2.5wheel and shifter, H.E Ultimate pedals, dual ramair duct wind simulator, 6 aura ast transducers and 3 adx transducers, and nice snug sparco LF2000 bucket seat. My next challenge is to find more immersion through a seat harness tensioner and maybe some sort of motion........ Be ready for lots of questions guys!
    Thanks in advance.
