    Hey Everyone,

I am making linear actuators with ball screws and I was curious about safety stops to limit the movement of the actuators so they don't extend too far or bottom out. I was thinking magnets and reed switches.

After looking at a handful of builds I don't see these features in a lot of designs. Are they necessary or are the encoders typically that good? (I'm using the AMT-102 and odrive)

    Thanks,

    Steve

I don't know about odrive but they are generally not absolutely necessary unless needed to determine the position of the platform at startup. Other than that though its still "wise" to also have them for safety purposes.
