    Hey Everyone,

Just to be clear this is not my original idea. After scouring these forums and anything else I could find on the web I decided that if I was going to attempt this seemingly monumental task it needed to be under $3k and didn't include manufacturing techniques out of my current skill set. Wickie in the odrive forum posted a low cost solution using odrives, keda 63-64 motors, ball screws, and an air spring to offset the weight of the rider.

I have undergone a very similar project but instead of machining aluminum and making everything look pretty I have 3D printed a lot of parts. I have also added a pressure reservoir and linked all of the actuators together to help keep the pressure from fluctuating dramatically while the cylinder moves.

I will be adding pictures, asking questions as I navigate the software, and updating this until completion.

    Wish me luck!

Try dragging the images to the reply window. X-Simulator.net can host the image itself. Very handy in case your image host goes out of business, etc.

Here's a CAD image of the actuator. If you have any questions about the details just ask!

    hello steve!

What's the status of your project? I have seen that you want to build an actuator similar to mine.
Meanwhile I also started a thread here in the forum - have a look...

Since the performance of my brushless motors is much higher than I expected, I'm not so sure anymore if I will implemented the idea with the integrated gas pressure spring. However, I will build the parts so that I can still decide.
