    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, DC motor, Arduino

    Hello Guys,

After some time i could finished my 2DOF Project.

After many tries i can say, it works. Here's a video.

My Base is an RSeat RS1, because it is a very compact Design and it has enough stability for my Fanatec Base 2.5. I need a compact Simulator, because it stays in my room and i need to move it sometimes. After my first Races in IRacing i missed some motion in my rig and start the research for it. First thing i found was the 'Next Level Motion Platform' for 3000 €, which was too expensive for me, so i decided to build a Motion Platform by myself.

So i started the research in web. I had the typical question: Which motors/software? How much are the costs?

I found a modified Version of the SMC-3 Sketch which works perfect with my sabertooth. It has a really nice thread with introduction.
    Here is a link: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...ket-serial-pid-motor-driver-w-softstart.9277/

The most parts i got on ebay, like my motors, power supply, potentiometers and microcontrollers.

Everything assembled together i could start my first try to get the motors running with the software. It wasn't my first time with arduino and co, so it wasn't a big problem to setup. Here's a vid of my really first test:

My Electronics looked really messy, so i bought an box and put my electronics in it, i wrote a little Sketch for 2 temperaturesensors, which monitors the temperature of my power supply and sabertooth. I put some LED's in it, which shows the current temperature of my parts. But i never had problems with temperature...

After software and electronics, i was going to the mechanics. I bought a used universal joint. Originally i wanted to assemble all my parts on wooden plates, but i recognized it isnt a good idea, because of flex. I construct a plate for mounting my motors. My Brother was able to produce them at work. It's a 5mm steel sheet, it is really strong. Additionally i got new sitadapters, because of the height of my seat. These new adapters are 5cm lower than the original, so my seat is only 2cm higher than without the motionplatform, good result i think.

Mounted plate, I started the first test. At the same time I ordered an aluminum profile frame for the seat.

Then everything was assembled and it ran. Minor problems cropped up, but the biggest thing was the brackets from the engines. No 20 minutes drove me a motor mount crashed. The cast mounts of my engines were probably a bit undersized for their performance. I flexed the brackets of the engines and fixed them with exhaust clamps, which really left no room for maneuver. But for that reason I can not really recommend my engines. I have also long asked myself how much power do the motors need for my RIG. Finally i can say the 160 watts would not have been necessary, at least not at my body weight of 70 KG, the engines run at 70% and even at 50% of the power I notice no problems , Link to the engines:

    https://www.ebay.de/itm/Micro-Motor...720978?hash=item5d6d4cfe92:g:G0IAAOSw1VJZ2YLf.

My costs amounted to around 500 €, while smaller purchases are not included. But the result fits and the black optics adapts to the RSeat. I like it.

How do you like my project, please leave a comment there, of course you can also ask questions.

    Best regards Lorenz

Congratulations on your project! Amazing work, and it looks like a fully functional seat mover achieved at a very reasonable price. I also have a Rseat Rs1 and was looking into a NextLevel Racing 3 platform, but your project has piqued my interest and I would like to attemp to build a similar (identical if possible) seat mover. I have some questions regarding your post, first regarding the Motors you used, I did not quite understood whether these were finally up to the task and also whether they will handle a heavier user like myself (93kg, I'm 1.88m). I also wonder if you are considering sharing some kind of tutorial, part-list, etc... if not, I would be very interested in arranging some kind of agreement for your guidance (donation or payment for your time would be fine).

Thank you in advance for any help or guidance you can provide.

    Best Regards.

    Lorenzo (from Spain).

    Hello Lorenzo,
First of all, thank you for your compliment. Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a chaotic "designer", so I did not document that much. But where I can help I like to help. I'll see what else I can find.
    To the electric motors:
What I meant is that the engines basically have enough power even for 90 kg body weight. But the motor-mountings were not strong enough, so they broke (the mountings), so i had to build my own's. So 180W are fine, but you have to look for another motors. If i could decide again, i would buy used wheelchair motors.
Electronics and programming are similar to this : https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...ket-serial-pid-motor-driver-w-softstart.9277/
