    I guess they have quite a high frequency applied. Useful for brazing - not magnets ;)

    But add a suitable core and you could easily saturate it at lower frequency. :cool:

    Would only using a positive cycle square wave (0 - +12v as opposed to +12v - -12v) have any detrimental effects?
    Would the fly-back diode dissipate the stored energy quick enough before the next pulse come through (70Hz max) or would a transient suppressor diode be better suited? Currently my plans are to use a mosfet as a switch, using a square wave generator to trigger it. I'd basically be using the mosfet to turn the magnetic field on and off.

    You need to reverse polarity every other cycle or you will gradually get DC field build up in the core. From a logic type square wave you can use a flip-flop and op-amps to get the positive and negative components required to have a magnetic field that reverses each time and creates the magnetic pull.

    No problem, basic scheme is pulse train fed to flip-flop and each output on flip flop will toggle alternately but will never be 'ON' together, one output will need inverting before you sum the 2 outputs back together. You will need a bipolar supply and op-amps for inverting and summing.

    Some modern H bridge drivers will do the inversion bit for you and you only need to feed it the 2 flip flop logic outputs.

    Like this one that i have used alongside their demo ucontroller board before - note PWM0 and PWM1 inputs - think you can download all the data sheets.

    Before anyone asks, yes it is feasible to replace the FETS with headers and connect bigger output FETS :grin

    Good idea, I tried it with a bass speaker, and had some success. But did not cut the speaker cone . Its idea is the best I've seen so far.

    Hi,
    pretty good idea, I just found a source of free available electromagnets:
    I take the ballast from obsoleete HQI Lamp fixtures. They have about 8 Ohms, so no need to recoil them! Every store is nowadays changing to LED lightning, so they throw out their old lightning utilities. I used 2 in parallel, one on top of the other.
    And you are right, considering square waves. Sinus or music like waves are for magnets unsuitable, they need on and offs.

    Here is a circuit that I`ll try, I´ll post it in my next posts.
    Ne 555, astable smith trigger, base freq 1-10Hz, and controlle the freq by musik. A power FET will make those Mags rumble. A car battery 21 V hsould be fine, may be 24V .

    Now I can post the link to the cirecuit I found:

    It uses 23 KHz, so I`ll use 1M ohm and 10 µF for 1Hz.
    And of course we don`t need the tessla coil, ninsteat of it the power magnet goes.

    Shakers like aura or buttkick are more simple and easy to setup.
