Hi everyone! I'm starting an atypical OpenSimWheel project and I plan to release everything I design/build/find here for everyone to use. I say atypical because I will use parts that I have laying around in my garage and will design some others.

    Let the journey begin!

And by the way, I'm in Québec, Canada, so if you need stuff for your build let me know, I might be able to help :)

These are the parts I had laying around my garage:

    The AC servomotor: It's an Allen-Bradley H-4075-R-H00AA

The servo drive: An ElectroCraft BRU-200. I'll have to understand it and be able to interface it to the available STM32 firmware. That will be the challenging part :)

I also plan to put everything in a 4U 19" rackmount case. I'll probably add another 4U over it afterwards for the computer.

I'm not sure of the exact criteria but as a new member you need a few more posts before editing is available. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and good luck.

    IMechanical:
This section will contain everything related to mechanical stuff.

    The wheel:

Here's a 3D printed part available on thingiverse for a cheap quick release mount for the steering. As my motor have a 19mm shaft, I did a remake of the original design to be able to fit it.
    (22mm shaft version) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1575453
    (19mm shaft version) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3559786

I also bought a bike seatpost quick release (34.9mm) on amazon

For the actual wheel, I went for the cheap Momo Aliexpress copy

    The Seat:

A couple years ago I did a swap of those RX8 seats into my Mazda6. Long story short, I crashed it and I kept the seats (one is motorised). I finally chose to keep the one with manual adjustments as it is way lighter!

    The Frame:

I bought some plans (30$) from OpenSimRacing but as I was too cheap to buy the version will all the quotes I had to be creative to be able to have the same plates. Specially that I would have to modify them to fit my Openbuilds 40mmx40mm rails. I really don't know if I can share the plans of the (modified) plates so if there's demand I'll ask him. I'm progressing a lot and I've decided to keep the base of the seat with the standard adjustments as the back cushion is bolted to the base.

I started to make the plates from 3mm MDF because that's what I had laying aroung and it's cheap to replace if I make mistakes in the design. It's surprinsingly rigid for now so I'll keep them like that until they doesn't fit anymore.

Well well... call me crazy but I think a direct drive wheel and pedals won't be enough... I looked at a couple of builds and well... I HAVE to also build a moving seat! So my next question was... 2DOF or 6DOF? I don't really like the 3DOF and haven't took time to analyse the other ones... So I went into my garage to find inspiration... and the choice have made itself! I found something that was perfect for the project!

So here's the beast! A six axis servo drive! So did I really have the choice? I don't think so! Now my girlfriend calls me crazy (nothing new under the sky), but I can live with that :p

Another plus is that I plan to store everything into a rackmount closet and run the cables from there to the rig afterward, so I'll be able to "kind of" move the thing around for events or whatnot.

Now I have to dig around to see if I have the matching motors... stay tuned!

I dug around and found 4 of those beasts... The specs seems to match the drivers :) Will it be too much? Too big? Don't know yet! What's sure is that I'll need two more!

Weekend update, I removed everything that was in the 4U rack, removed the backplates and changed the one that was for the ATX power supply for a plain one. I also changed the broken connector on the drive for wires (I wasn't able to find a connector that was fitting). I did a test for the fit of the drive and the supply and I'll have plenty of space for the remaining electronics.
