3DOF french simulator

    salut tout le monde,
    un salut amical de la france pour vous présenter mon simulateur.

    suite a une video croisée sur le net, mes enfants (8 et 13 ans) m'ont demandé s'il etait possible de leur construire une machine semblable.

    on a donc pris la decision de tenter l'aventure.

    le but final etant un simulateur de voiture pour eux et d'avion pour moi.

    nous sommes parti sur un projet 3DOF.

    apres quelques recherches et calcul, on s'est lancé dans la construction de la strucure de base

    suite du projet : le poste de pilotage des enfants....... et du pere par la meme occasion.......
    on est parti sur la base d'un logitech G27 qu'on avait deja dans les cartons avec la construction d'une structure qui offre un maximum de reglages et de legeretée.

    la truscture conplète tel que sur la photo fait 27 Kg.

    Apres de la peinture et des supports bois pour les cartes et les alim, ce fut le temps des branchements des sabers et de l'arduino....

    on s'est lancé ensuite dans la conception d'un systeme pour integrer des ressors pour aider les moteurs lors des remontées.
    on voulait un systeme qui ressemble a des amortisseurs de moto.
    voila ce que ca donne sur la structure.

    apres 1 mois et demis de travail, la machine est enfin terminée et elle a trouvée sa place......dans mon bureau.......

    j'en ai profité pour construire un vrai systeme de frein a main à partir d'un tuto trouvé sur le net. simple efficace.

    Les premiers essais sur simtools et live for speed sont concluant. il ne reste qu'à affiner les réglages pour que ca ressemble un maximum à un comportement de voiture.......et les enfants pourront s'amuser.

    pour ma part, je vais commencer la construction du poste de pilotage de l'avion à partir d'un Trustmaster HOTAS X que j'ai entièrement démonté.......

    voila pour la première partie de cette aventure.

    hello everyone...
    a little hello post from France to present you my DIY sim.
    after having seen a video on the web, my 2 boys asked me if it was possible to build such a fun machine.
    we decided to try the adventure.......
    the final scope of work was to end up with a car sim for them and a plane one for me.....
    we decided to go for a 3DOF with 3 engines.

    after few reserch on the web and some calculations, we started building the basement.

    then we created the pilote cockpit for the kids......and the father.......... with as many setting as possible based on a G27 logitech whell that i already had.....

    after 1,5 mounth of work, the machine is finished and back in my office room.......

    i also created a real analog hand brake based on a tuto found on the web. works just fine.....

    the firs tests with LFS and simtools are OK. we just need to fine tune everything to be as close as possible to the behaviour of a car..... and the kids will rock on it

    on the other side, i will start building my plane cockpit based on an old trustmaster Hotas X that i have and that i will trransform to match the real plane commands.

    here is the first part of our adventure in the SIM world.

    I wanted to thanl the X simulator team for my free licence i just received.

    Just a little question :
    I 'm currently using my laptop for testing but it's defenetly not powerfull enough.
    i intent to buy a fixed game computer just for the sim.
    Will this code still be valid to reload and install simtools on the new computer or will i have to ask for a new code.

    having been very busy at work, i let the sim sleep for a while....

    So here are some news about the work done.

    The moving plateform didn’t change at all. It works just great .

    We decided to give up the three screens and moved to oculus quest 2. Although the 3 screens setup was great to use and was offering a good degree of immersion, there is no compare with a VR setup.

    I did concentrate on finishing my pod in order to respond the 3 specific demands : flying planes (ultralight) racing cars, drifting cars and finally flying helicopters.

    For the car setup, i did upgrade the steering wheel . I got read of the G25 wheel and replaced it by the Thrustmaster T500RS base.

    I did dismount the palet shifters on it. I did 3D print a hub to mount a real race car wheel. The size and the wheight makes the feeling just perfect and i added a small keyboard with touchpad for setting up the games

    When racing modern cars that need wheel shifting, i mount the sparco wheel.

    The pedals are still the G25 one. I didn’t wanted to replace them with the thrustmaster set as i did fine tune the spring and the gum in the G25 brake pedal and it gets real close to the feeling of a real car. So i kept them.

    For the shifter, i did upgrade to thrustmaster T8A .

    It’s rock solid but to be honest, if someone wants to save money on his setup, this buy is the last to go for as the G25 shifter does the job just the same. It feels more plastic and toy when using it but it does the job.

    For the plane setup, i just dismount the wheel (easy with the thrustmaster system) and flip forward the base.

    On the leg of the wheel stand i can install a 3D printed home made gaz lever that is the same one i’m having on my real ultralight (ICP savannah).

    For the rudder, i use the car pedals. I dismount the 3 spring pistons,with a metal plate i lock the brake pedal to mid travel and i use it as a pivot point. By adding a shaft through the 3 pedals, when i push the gaz, it pulls back the clunch and vice versa…

    I did implement a Hall sensor and a magnet on the shaft of the gaz potentiometer and transfer the info to an analog to digital converter then i transfer the info to a master controller designed by Alexey Kudryashov.
    For the stick, i did 3D print a base using Alexey’s tuto.

    I did create my own bar and mounted on it the B8grip from alexey.

    All these componets are plugged to the master controller.

    For the helicopter setup, the rudder and cyclic are just the same as the plane setup. I get read of the gaz lever and i add the collective lever that contain a real Throttle handle.

    All the helicopter parts come from the website http://hc625ma.org/wiki/doku.php?id=start . I do invite you to check it out as Alexey Kudryashov did a tremendous work and is just a FUC…… killer when it comes to sim flying helicopters….. He is just the man to follow.


    I’m now finetuning all that and setting Xplane 12 on it. I was flying Xplane 10 but this version doesnt support VR so i did upgrade.
