    Hi guys,

I built a 2dof motion seat a while back and it has been working fine but I originally removed the brakes from the 24v wheel chair motors. I have always had issue with the seat flopping around when not in use so recently decided to put the brakes back on to lock the seat in place when not used.

I don't have any labels on my motors so I assumed the voltage to release the brakes was also 24V. I have connected these up to my power supply and it all works, but after around 5 minutes of just being plugged in the brakes are at around 50degrees C.

Should these electromagnetic coils be getting that hot? Are all wheelchair brakes powered by 24V or are some lower?

I have searched the net for information on these motors but I can't find any info on them as I guess it isn't really published.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Matt.

The label on my 24V wheelchair motor says that the brake needs 12V, not 24.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I used a drop down converter in the end to supply the brakes with 12v and they now stay cool.

I needed the brakes to come on when the sim wasn't in use as I use it as my standard computer seat the rest of the time.

    All working fine now :)
