I built this rig in 2017 and always wanted to put 4dof on it well 5dof i suppose with rear traction loss. First things first though. rear traction will come last. I need to make the 4 steppers all work good first. Finally made some promising progress last night with Simtools and the motors doing roll/pitch from iRacing in a 410 Dirt wing sprint car.

Slowly but surely she is coming along. I ghetto'd it up to test out the motion and it was very impressive. So I pulled the trigger on more parts and another NEMA 34 closed loop and i will move my NEMA23 on a Parker linear actuator to the left front. So tomorrow I will have more progress. I actually felt like i needed my full containment seat after i figured out the min/max deal..... oh boy... Even put a hole in the wall and busted the frame of my monitor mounted on the rig... I suppose Sprint cars and midgets are not in the (default) realm....haha IMG_20190313_034537843.jpg IMG_20190313_034606764.jpg IMG_20190313_034537843.jpg IMG_20190313_034606764.jpg IMG_20190313_034614753.jpg IMG_20190313_034711672.jpg IMG_20190313_034537843.jpg

1 motor mounted and completed. Again, waiting on minor parts for the left rear.

The movement looks pretty smooth, would not it be better to have a little more rpm in the engine?

this was the adjusted code i was using. I switched to a Teensy 3.0 worked much better then the UNO.

Yeah I was testing to find the right speed and then have to change it in the code and reflash arduino. I had it too fast a few times and it would run away and bottom out or run out. Basically ruined a the cheap chinese ball nuts and lost all my ball bearings... haha

I tabled the project last spring because of real race season. I will be picking it back up when i find some quality ballscrew's and/or quality linear acuators and can use my stepper's with.

Well, I had mentioned xsimulator to a friend today and realized I once again finished a project 99%, I forgot to update the forum. Well, I scraped the stepper motor deal when i seen how cheap the PT Actuators were. They ran a special right around pandemic lockdown time. What better way to spend your time indoors, right?

So I bought the 3 pt actuators, and bought a 4th servo of same brand/model on alibaba $175(ish)shipped. Found an industrial grade Parker linear actuator I thought should do the trick on Ebay for around $100. Used my 3D printer to print some mounts and a foot for the threaded end of the actuator.

The Parker was actually a 10mm pitch and not 5mm and it also was reverse thread, but because of Thanos' awesome controllers, i just set that 1 to 10mm and everything works great.

here is what i have been running since 2020, oh and I should have bought a more comfortable seat a long time about.

First time out on a shakedown, what better place then sebring. Almost installed belts in the thing.
