    Welcome @Tim Palmgren.

You can even build your own actuators and you will likely find @Michael Hensen's D-Box inspired build thread of interest: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/diy-d-box-style-for-vr-3-dof.11524/

But there are also many other design options. So do some research and planning, the community here can help you out as you formulate your ideas about what you want to build and even where you can source parts from.

Have a look at existing member builds, that may help you refine your own project: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduinos and Motor Monsters and more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Feel free to ask questions, the members here give freely of both their time and expertise.

    Good luck with your project.

    Hello everybody!
It's great to "be around" you all; I'm very interested in your projects.

I'm not here looking for help (yet) and I'm not making a motion simulator (I wish I was) but I am making controls for X-Plane 11 helicopters. I love VR - I have the Rift.

I've decided to modify a joystick and use the potentiometers. I've heard about Hall Effect sensors, but it's early days for me.

I've pretty much designed the collective and throttle, and the cyclic doesn't need much in the way of "designing".

I flirt with the idea of creating the instrument panels, so I can click feel switches with my hands, but I don't know how to get a computer to know that my circuit board is a "joystick/gamepad".

I have seen PCBs which convert analogue to digital, which in theory would communicate potentiometer "position" (voltage) to the PC, but that's pretty much where I'm at.
I've seen USB PCBs that have lots of USB buttons - they'd cover the switches..... But pots are my problem.

I'm not asking how to do it, I'll keep looking for myself, it's just an introduction to what I'm doing.

Who am I? 45 year old man, UK, looking after my mother.

General tinkerer, worst electronics enthusiast on earth

Fine line between idiot and genius

Good luck everybody, I hope your projects are going great!

Thank you very much Noorbeast :)

Very very good of you. After posting, I looked online and found that Arduino converts analogue to digital, and also can be used for a USB HID keyboard.

So I'm on a good path. I'll most certainly snoop about in here, and update my progress.

I love to finally find people that not only know what I'm talking about, but know more than I do about it.

    :)

I'm grateful for your message, thank you.

    Best wishes,
    Craig

    Hello everybody.

Iñigo from Spain checking in. I´m starting from scratch and in the phase of gathering info on how to build a motion system. I saw how active and helpful your community is and loved it, so I decided to make a donation from the beginning. I´m planning on building a 2dof system with absolutely zero knowledge. It´s intended to be for driving simulation only, iRacing to be more precise. Do you think 2dof is enough for it? From what I´ve learn in the forums I can later upgrade to more in case I need it.

    Cheers

I am here for what is probably an unusual reason, compared to most who are here. I am part of a group that is seeking to establish a creation museum in the Eastern Pennsylvania area. One of the things we are considering is the use of VR to take the audience members to other locations, such as the pyramids at Giza.

It will probably end up using a basic, non-stereoscopic projection onto the interior of a half-dome. But, I am also looking into other possibilities. One enhancement may be to include a motion platform, so that the audience members will feel they are in a vehicle driving through the tour site. So rather than feeling like you are in a race car, it would be more like being in a golf cart on smooth ground. Perhaps up to 4 passengers would be in the simulator.

I do mechanical engineering, so I have a bit of an interest in DIY stuff. But in this case for the museum, I am primarily interested in an off-the-shelf solution. So, does anyone know of an off-the-shelf solution for what I am seeking?

    -Joe

    Hi guys and gals,
I'm new to the party but I'm a veteran dancer ;)
After realizing a commercial rig with engineers (I did only cosmetics mainly on the outside) I felt the urge to try this at home.
Just getting started with motion though, yeah more cables :D

    Hey Everyone!
Not quite sure what to share in my intro.
Oklahoma, work in IT, I'm a father and I like getting into projects like this.
This is my first time diving into motion simulation.
I purchased a BlueTiger motion platform off of Ebay, and I've been acquiring other controls parts I'll need to get it complete.
Anyways, I'll post my project soon and hopefully get some pictures up sometime this week.

    Hi guys

I am Joeri and I am from the Netherlands and 35 years old.
I've been looking around the website for a while now.

I am trying to build a motion seat with my colleague
We are now testing a bit and collecting stuff for a 2 dof motion seat.

I will create a project topic so that you can see what we are doing.

    Hi guys.

    Martin from Norway here.
I've been browsing this site for a while, and I've been gathering parts to build my own actuators for a 6DOF motion platform.
Yesterday I started working on the first actuator, and I've connected it to an ESP32 board, running FlyPT's code.
So far I've had only minor success, but I'm confident I will get the prototype actuator up and running soon!

Anyways, I just wanted to say hi.

    Hello to all members!
I am Ivica, age 45, aviation and related simulation ethusiast, and i am coming from Zadar, Croatia.
Also i am member of local aero club, and here we are recently organized section for virtual flying, in hope to encourage young people in every aspect of aviation...i came upon this forum in search for software that could put in use simulator (seat from atomic motion system) which we received by a donation, but with no drivers or software provided....we are using x plane 11 and DCS.
Also full sim cockpit build plan is in progress...here i am hoping to find useful information about every aspect of simbuilding ...
Cheers from sunny city of Zadar !
