I finally got around to making a quick video of my rig in action.:D

Sway still needs some better tuning but overall the motion seems to work pretty well.

Ha, cheers @noorbeast - The aim of the whole design was immersion. I wanted something you sit inside of without building a fully enclosed setup. You'd be surprised what a few bars here and there add to the immersion just because you know things are around you. You may not even see them as such while driving but you know you climbed into the rig. Even that webbing on the left side helps a lot. Immersion is everything!:nerd :grin

I know what you mean, hence my passion for VR as it is the ultimate when it comes to presence, that feeling of feeling of being there.

I haven't tried VR myself. Maybe my next sim will include that...

Brilliant video @GIB SimRacing - I bet you were grinning like a Cheshire cat on your first run. I am sure you will agree, Nords feels awesome on a motion sim :)

Thanks mate. The Nordschleife has always been one of my favorite tracks. But now it is alive! Even compared to other tracks in AC, this one seems to be the one making the sim shake the most.

Still playing around with the profiles and settings to fine tune it to my liking.
I do have a gremlin in my system though. Every now and then one motor seems to be moving more than the other. I have swapped the motors from one side to the other, have done the same with the jrk's and the pots. Yet, this issue appears every now and then, but always on the same side.
At this stage, I can only put it down to either the USB ports on the PC or it is software related.
Anybody come across a similar problem?

    Try cables,
what power supplies you using? PID settings? Motor settings?

Thanks for the suggestions mate. :thumbs I will post up the settings on the weekend (probably won't have a chance before then). And I'll try re-installing the drivers and check the power supplies (DPS 600pb's) and cabling.

Found the problem! It was nothing even remotely complicated. I found that the grub screw wasn't holding the potentiometer in exactly the right spot and therefore had the tiniest amount of play every now and then. That made the motor move ever so slightly further.
On one side, I'm glad it was something that simple. On the other side, I feel kind of retarded for not working that out straight away...

    Well, long time no post...
Sim has been running great and the (extremely) small amount of free time has been spent using it. Of course, minor adjustments on the software side are always part of using a sim it seems. But that comes with it.
The other day was one of those days were I found myself with a couple of hours of free time so I went straight to the sim room, thinking, maybe a run around Bathurst is the thing to do....
Unfortunately, that didn't happen as my middle monitor did not turn on.
A little while went by, checking software settings, cabling and power. All good. DAMN!
Unscrew the monitor, open it up check the circuit board, I thought. Hopefully just a swollen capacitor or the fuse on the power supply board...All good. Hm, swap the board from on of the other screens...Still no go.
Shined a torch onto the front of the screen to see if the menu comes up. Yep, verdict......LED backlighting has failed. Great!
After looking around for a replacement, I found that I can't get that particular model anymore, of course.
So the question arose.....3 new monitors or....VR?

Might be time to get to work again and build some upgrades.

    Decisions, decisions....

    You're alive @GIB SimRacing !! :)

You know my answer... VR all the way. Just a few caveats...

    1. You become a VR snob. You will stop playing ALL games that no longer support VR.
    2. You will spend the first few hours of VR just doing random stuff in VR, because you can.
    3. Google Earth VR will make you lose sleep.
    4. Arizona Sunshine will make you lose body functions.
    5. Assetto Corsa will have you falling in love with tracks.
    6. You WILL need to retune all your motion profiles. Even a small bump is the big dipper at Bathurst in VR!

I only have the Rift, so that would be all I can recommend. The rift working with Stream VR appears easier that than the Vive working with the Rift eco-system (or so I have read)

    Good luck :)

Yes I'm very much alive! Haha. Just been busy and only checked the forum here every now and then.
I only got to try VR a little while ago for the first time. That was on the PS4. I have to say the image quality was very disappointing but the immersion was amazing.
I also only just started researching VR so I'm not sure yet what to do, what is involved, what to possibly get and how my system would handle it...

I have a 7970 Radeon and I can enjoy all the games I have, certainly having at least a 1070 would be nice though. I run the Rift and I'm quite happy with it. As you say, immersion is unbeatable but if you dont like the limited FOV or the resolution then you may not enjoy it us much as you want. Each has their own opinion here, I certainly dont mind.
If resolution is something you need and also FOV then go for a Pimax 5+ and you'll need a 1080Ti or 2080Ti to drive this beast. (that also means you'll be spending alot more going Pimax than rift at this point)

I have the option to run either the GTX 970's in SLI or use a single GTX 980. Together with an I7 3770K and 16Gb of RAM, I'm hoping that will run a Rift reasonably well. But I think anything higher resolution would be a struggle.
I do like the specs of the Pimax 5K Plus but upgrading the PC on top of buying a HMD is currently not possible. Especially looking at the cost of the 2080Ti's!!!
But if @Archie is right and I become addicted to VR, I can always look at a new system down the track to increase the visual fidelity and experience.

Just a heads up, hardly any VR games support SLI, a single card is the way to go.

@GIB SimRacing - As the SDK for the Rift has become more mature, games are getting more fluid in VR.

I had a GTX 980 and it ran everything fine in VR except Xplane and P3D. As you don't seem to flightsim, going off your specs I'd punt that you VR will run just fine for AC / PCars etc...

One tool you must get if you do go down the VR path is the "Oculus Tray Tool" - It's a genius piece of software.

I've also coupled my VR with VoiceAttack so I can talk most commands so as not to break the VR immersion.
