I just had word that Santa has fired up the sleigh and is headed to the international date line, somewhere around Christmas Island, Kiribati, ready for a world wide tour. For those who need it here is the official Norad Santa tracker: http://www.noradsanta.org/

Seriously though I know we have many members from around the world who have a diverse range of views and beliefs. Irrespective of what those may be I would like to pass on end of year seasons greetings to yourselves, and those who you hold near and dear.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the Xsimulator.net community. All members have contributed in a vast array of ways and I am constantly amazed by the originality and ingenuity you all bring to your many and varied projects.

We all got a great Christmas present in 2017, as @yobuddy launched the Game Vibe beta on Christmas day. That was followed by Video Ride Recorder in mid January and SimTools updates, which have further expanded functionality and support for new hardware, such as the second gen JRK controllers.

This year also ushered in a bunch of new plugins, and thankfully some new plugin devs (@Icy7CE, @ghiboz, @llluis) to ease the load on @value1's overburdened shoulders. Some of the older plugins have been updated to provide Game Vibe support. In addition the scope for PS4 related plugins has been further expanded by @vthinsel, while behind the scenes @Ville Pesonen has been working in conjunction with @yobuddy to expand plugin and Game Vibe capabilities. So a big Aussie Christmas koala stamp award to those, and all the other plugin devs, who we all depend on to bring our motion rigs to life in our favorite games.

One further special mention, I think I speak for everyone in passing on our collective thanks to @SilentChill, who has long been at the mercy of frequent updates to Elite Dangerous, which continually break one of the most popular motion plugins. It has been such a challenge that a new offset file method has been introduced, to encourage other members to find the changed pointers, rather than be dependent on @SilentChill updating the plugin after every ED update. I expect that little innovation will find its way into other challenging plugins that are vulnerable to game updates.

Member projects during 2018 have been as prolific, diverse, and creative as ever. @SeatTime's pioneering work with DC DIY actuators has been a boon to many, and has greatly expanded the ranks of 6DOF rigs this year. But I think it safe to say that it is variations of G- Systems (G-Seats, G-Pressure, G-Helmet) of @SeatTime and other members which have been the defining member project trend for 2018.

For me the ever increasing activity of this community never gets dull, there is always a new idea and new project. The ingenuity of members is just astounding!

There are many and varied traditions concerning the holiday season. For my family it has been my 87yo father giving my motion sim a Christmas Eve and Christmas day work out with War Thunder in VR, which he has done every year since 2014. Dad is the oldest student pilot to solo in Australia, but he has limited opportunities to fly, plus it is a 2hr drive each way, so he really enjoys flight sims, and War Thunder in particular. This year was special, as @Ville Pesonen and @yobuddy pulled out all the stops to get some SimTools and plugin enhancements ready for testing by my dad for Christmas. So my heartfelt thanks to you both, you are just plain awesome!

So wherever you are and whatever you may be doing many thanks for being a part of this vibrant community and I wish you all the best for the festive season and new year, I expect it to be one of endless possibilities and amazement.
