    6DOF
Hey hope all is well for everyone,

I need some guidance on how many "dof's" i would need on a motion sim platform for flight in general. I learned for racing a simple 2dof would suffice for most while others opt for a 3dof.

Everywhere i dig i only find info about racing. My budget is $5000. All i want to do is fly and feel like im really flying.

I notice some motion sims have pitch/roll/yaw and i noticed others actually have pitch/roll/yaw/up/down so im guessing thats what is needed for flying sims?

Help me understand what motion rig i should get that is user friendly. I reside in the united states if that helps with anything. Thanks in advance.

    Chris

No rig fully replicates full real world motion + Gs, rather they simulate motion in a way that tricks the brain into filling in the gaps.

A simple 2dof does work as well for basic racing rigs and flight sims, within the limitations of what can be done with 2dof and decent motion profiles, which for flight profiles will require the use of filters. The addition of VR helps a lot.

A 6dof with G-seat, G-pressure system, G-helmet and G-harness, like @SeatTime has been developing, will do a much better job than a basic 2dof, but at additional cost and complexity.

ZOnly you can decide for yourself where your needs full on the spectrum between the two.

In either case a bit of research will be time well spent, as even a 2dof represents a reasonable investment of time and money.
