DIY FFB Steering wheel (MMosFFB ) (In Progress)

    Hey all,

    Currently hoping to have this built by the end of the year and at the moment I'm working on the design in CAD. Didn't want to make a whole thread since I havent made much progress beyond design.

    I plan to have all the electronics in an external box to make it easier to make future mechanical mods.

    I want to use 1 24v 150w MY6812 motor with a 1:7 3m pitch timing pulley ratio. Should give around 4Nm at 350ish RPM. (if the motor performs as expected)

    Here are some more pics and I'd love any suggestions for improvement.

    The paddle shifter, I may add a magnet if I dont like the feel.

    Listen, do the Wheelconfig realy need a set up every time it is loaded? Run through every bottons mapping etc.? Or there is some way to save it outhere?

    Hey. Build one with ArduinoLeonardo. FFB later on. Realy thanks Pals for info with stand alone power supply for encoder and push pull resistors on it.

    Brushless motor only if you have a bldc type control.
    If you are going to control how RC will not work well, instead of having the effect of forcing it to one side, it will vibrate.

    I've got a question. Assembled all, but when turn on the power to the boards, the wheel continuosly rotates. I use Arduino Leo with Wheel Config. The pin 10, and 11 in Arduino Leo was checked to change the pins for L and R directions. It just rotates as just a motor with a power on to it and thats all.

    Sounds like an issue with the encoder. The wheel beleives it needs to be in a certain position and will rotate to get to that position (centered). But if the encoder is not working properly or is wired in reverse the wheel will continue to spin as it is trying to reach a position but never gets there.

    First run without FFB.
    Once it is working, open the profile and configure the FFB according to its usage (example PWM and DIR).
    Connect pins 10 and 11. If it does not work correctly, test with a multimeter (or something like that) to try to understand the behavior of the doors.

    I mean, it just work even without anything, just apply power and U've got a scooter from your wheel)
    The Wheel config works fine itself with encoder. In the game also.
    In pics it is not already conneceted to it.

    Here are the pics of the rig. May it be a lack of proper wiring ( connection itself, lost contact i.m.) to the BTS drivers. Don't know. Also checked with the certain 5v+ and common ground to bts drivers.

    Allright. I messed up with ground to BTS. Lol.

    Now again) With "PWM +Dir" it still rotates like motor. When check "PWM +/-" it stops. When hit callibrate it rotates for a certain amount to the left and stops. Looked up in a game no ffb.

    The motor rotates beyond the calib triangle limit befor a stop.

    Don't know if that will be intresting here. IF hit calibrate, the wheel starts to rotate slowly, and if then hit it twice again somehere in its rotation, it change the direction but do rotate as it like further on, a bit some more. If hit calibrate once again, it acts like before by itself in direction change. It just memoraze the last action. I haven't read it anywhere before....But no FFB still. And angle stop too e.t.c
    Use 12V15A power in tests. Can be an issue m.b. too. What a mess, any way with it:D

    I'd like to build a wheel with a stm32 and I was wondering what design I should use. I was reading this thread and I saw that Alexey was using a direct drive motor. But I was thinking about using a wiper motor with a belt drive since a wiper motor is fairly accessible. What would you guys recommend?

    a wiper motor is normally a worm drive - it will not work for a ffb wheel

    Thanks for the reply. The reason I had thought that a wiper motor is possible was from this post. What would you recommend for a motor?
