    Sure, but duty cycle does not change at all. So what is the verdict? The best actuator you can buy is a DIY one.

    The duty cycle is really just a manner of heat management so if you can solve that they could be used. That said I don't see a good way of cooling the motors when they're stuck in a sealed tube with other components.

    Hydrogen Cooling = $ 2'000.-

    Jokes aside, also standard motors needs cooling from time to time, my 12V motor from a winch under my seat (heave) is getting very hot, to avoid a death of heat I thrilled a lot of holes into it and added two ventilators on each side. If you know where to open the actuator (which should be difficult to know) cycle rate and durability will improve.

    I would be keen to see inside one to see what components are in there

    I saw you searching and asking a lot of questions for some months about all the different diy actuators and commercial ones, after all that research, don't you think it is more feasible to just copy the best of each and diy or just copy one?

    Yes i have been doing some research

    It appears a 3dof with gearmotors is fine for a driving sim

    For 6dof with linear actuators i think a 1kw 48v dc motor with shaft encoder and ballscrew should outperform most commercial actuators

    I am still researching stepper motors and some have good torque but are quite noisy. The precision of a stepper is not needed for an actuator of this type

    It might be suitable for flying. Flight sim doesn't work the motors anything like as hard, though heavy turbulence might give them a workout.
