Encoder location loss

    My Motion Simulator:
    DC motor, Motion platform, 6DOF
    I have a 2 DOF 24v wheelchair motor rig using 100P/R encoders on the motors. When doing lots of laps I notice the motors lose there position. Not much, but just enough that I need to reset once in a while. Any Ideas?

    Are the encoders being supplied voltage from the same supply as the motors? If the power supply is getting shorted by excessive current draw from the motors then at that moment the encoders will momentatrily loose VCC and not count the rotation.

    Or you might have to shield the encoder wires from possible EMI coming from the large current spikes in the motors.

    If this ends up being the issue, maybe look into ferrite beads. I don't have a lot of experience with them but you should be able to get some that "snap-on" and they are supposed to remedy issues like this.
