    Hi!

For us, who don't want to invest to expensive VR-setup, I can recommend trying cardboard-glasses with Riftcat/VRidge-software.

As they say it on the web: Use VRidge technology to turn your phone into an HTC Vive headset. We will make your computer think that your phone with Google Cardboard is a powerful PC VR headset.

I have been fiddling around with this now for a while and it actually works!!

Dirt Rally is a bit of pain to get start with, because it is not natively VR-game, so it needs Oculus software also. PCARS worked straight a way.

So all Steam-VR titles should work, I haven't tried were many yet....

For better experience, it would help if phone inside cardboard (I use plastic cheapos with extra tuning) had 2k or even 4k resoluton, because out show half of the screen to each eye.

Other software are available also like Trinus VR and ALVR - Air Light VR, Google is our friend ;)

    https://riftcat.com/vridge

ps. With motion rig this setup is hard without motion cancellation, I haven't yet looked for solutions which also are available for example using PS3-camera or so...

Have you guys tried one of these ??

While it is possible to use a low end cardboard VR HMD with streaming data it is not a Vive and should come with a clear warning that it can make some people ill, one because of potential lag and two because of the much lower refresh rate than proper PC VR HMDs.

Sure, you have to realize what comes with the price of few tens of bucks (my version of plasticboard costed 18€, plus 13€ for welders masks headband)...so what is the risk?

Personally, i have tried oculus rift and it was not TOO good experience with the clarity and resolution, so with a fraction of invest you can get i bit of taste what VR can some day be...

Yes, FOV is not great and there is a bit of lag in output, but i think these streaming solutions are getting quite good. Phones refresh is 60Hz... i think, so it is not a big problem.

If i got the money to spend, of course vive pro or so would be in my hands.

    Try before you buy!

man, i was trying to do something like this, (i should keep trying) my phone was kind of cheap so the end result was not good, but... on the other hand... please, share us how you mounted your welder mask strap to your cheap cardboard.

i actually bought one welder marsk strap, but did not find a nice way to adapt it to hte cardboard straps

    - you mentioned that you make some adaptations to your cardboard (whad did you do?)

    best regards from mexico

    Hi!

2 mods: hotglued headband and removed material from lens tubes. Also made foams a bit thinner, which also improves FOV. Side supports are not necessary, but helps to keep glasses pressed more firmly in my face.

View size is now restricted by my phone size, which is 5.1" -> view could be wider if the screen were bigger.

Yes, tubes did restrict FOV -> bad design.
