    Hello hug:

My name is Benjamin and I am 39 y.o. I live in south of France and I 'm starting a 2dof DIY based on an old Ikea seat that I had in my basement ;)

The idea is to have something quite discrete, so I'll re-use at maximum the current structure.

I would like to do a Seat mover for car simulators that could be converted easily into a full platform mover for flight sims...

The structure of the seat is in metal and seems strong enough.

    IMG_20180515_082523.jpg

My simulator will be based on
    • Ardiuno
    • Sabertooth 2x32 (from dimension engineering)
    • 2 Motors 120W 24V 40rpm 25Nm.
    • FCP22E potentiometers

I have already modified the structure:

I should receive 80 % of the spare parts this week I hope (comming from different part of the world - Germany, China... we are citizens of the world :p)

For the cardan, I 'll try to do something like that:

    téléchargement.jpg téléchargement (1).jpg

I ordered the square metal piece 50x50x40mm for 2.5 € but with 12€ of mail fees

I will fix the cardan here:

I'll post a new status this week:

    Thanks
    Ben.

    Thank you :thumbs

I have Project Cars 2 , Assetto Corsa and Dirt Rally for car racing sims.
Elite Dangerous and Aerofly FS2 for flight sims.

I hope as well to be able to setup No Limits 2 (a roller coster sim) for the kids , I saw it is possible in some youtube videos !

Great project! Good idea to start with this chair :)
I just hope it's rigid enough...

Looks a little high to me. I hope the pivot angle will be fine  Let's wait for the axial rods now...

I think you should increase the resistance of your motor supports
they do not seem very rigid to me

yes, you are fully right, good advise ! I will put a plank of wood to re-inforce the support and some extra angle brackets.

    Hi,

Thanks to good advises in the forum, I have re-inforced my future motors support:

    IMG_20180606_183604.jpg

and prepared the fixation of the axial rods on the chair:

    IMG_20180606_183541.jpg

Hope this is straight enough to avoid frictions....it will be the surprise !

nice job but it will take even more rigidity on the L of the engine mount

Here is an update after a week end of work :)

I have received all my parts now and mount every thing.

    Spoiler ON:
<<After hours of forum search and a big headache, I have finally been able to have Simtools working in Output demo and Live for Speed !!>>
    Spoiler OFF:

Here is the (almost) final Seat mover:

    IMG_20180617_191730.jpg

And it is moving :thumbs !!!

As you can see the aim was to be very discreet and to be as small as it could be. I guess this requirement is met .

Of course I had many issues (otherwise what would be the fun ? )

I spent several hours checking and checking again as nothing was moving...
Finally, I had to invert one potentiometer and I forgot some parameters in simtools, but now it is working properly.
Simtools seems to be great. I have to request a DIY license to be able to use Pcar2 and Elite ;)

    What remains now:
I am still not satisfied of the homemade crank I have done.

    I did a first version:
    IMG_20180613_182640.jpg

It was working empty, but the little piece that hold the crank to the motor broke when I tried while seated :blush

So I had to drill the motor to insert a crew that broke as well...(I broke 4 drill bits to do it )

    IMG_20180617_133551.jpg

I did a new crank with a metal bar I had, but it still not fully satisfying as it moves a little bit (I suspect the bar to be too soft):

    IMG_20180617_191739.jpg

I will do a third one (and last I hope) next week with a stronger metal bar.

At least I could try it on LFS.

Thanks to all of you that helped me so far.

You should widen the base of the simulator or at least put it on a base as it may swing

    Thanks for the advise.

I asked myself the same question and to be honest after several tests, it is very stable !

    Hello

Latest update thanks to all comments I received so far:

I have changed the cranks and amended the structure to have more aligned and shorter fixation points.

    IMG_20180623_220153.jpg

It is working properly now. I can hear my little girl screaming in No Limit 2 :p

Everything is working fine in Simtools 2 with:

    • PCar2
    • Dirt Rally
    • No Limit 2
    • AeroFly FS2
    • Elite Dangerous

I really love the Kart in Project Car 2. With the motion simulator , the SubPac S2 and the VR, it feel almost real :grin

Thanks again to all of you that helps me so far.

Ah, it looks good. What is the feeling of movement when the rods are from the engine under the chair? Do you know whether it is better to have the bars behind the engine behind the seat or under the seat? Thank you

To be honest, the feeling is quite the same, but the motors are working less. The best is to have the upper rods at the very same level than the cardan rotation axe.
