I am an experienced car mechanic but my electronics and are a bit patchy and have quite a limited knowledge of programming but im here to learn and hopefully someone can help if i get stuck

please forgive the poor quality photos this is just a collection of parts really i thought id use an old pc case to mount the motors etc in and will be reinforcing brackets to the drive shaft when that is mounted in the correct place 20171207_125103[1].jpg 20171207_125209[1].jpg 20171207_125526[1].jpg 20171207_125750[1].jpg
Thanks for looking and any advice or criticism is welcome.

A creative approach but I am skeptical that a PC case has enough rigidity, I suspect it needs an additional frame.

Hi noorbeast thanks for your response i totally agree with what you say so i am planning its to use the wiper mechanism and brackets to create in internal frame connected to the drive shaft

The base also has to be rigid enough to support the universal joint post and the mass of the seat and user when moving. Any frame movement will reduce the motion fidelity.

Thanks for that my idea at the moment is to mount the drive shaft to a scaffold base plate underneath the case and the 3 bars from each motor bracket to the base plate stub and then secure the plate to something like a bit of kitchen work surface off cut but i am trying to be resourceful as its cost less than £100 minus the seat and wheel so i hope that will be ridged enough i imagine it will be a bit trial and error.

Do you recommend use of a spring? im concerned if it elevates it might brake the motor gearing

A spring is not generally recommended unless it is perfectly tailored to a rig, as you can have oscillations or motors fighting against the spring when extended.

That said I do have an adjustable spring assist heave knee on my compact 3DOF rig.

When using wiper motors it is better to give them more design leverage instead, as they are not that powerful.

Normally you also have top ground isolate wiper motors: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/wiper-motor-mandatory-ground-isolation.25/

fantastic build you have by the way looks really professional do you use any spring in that?

You don't need a seat belt but I am genuinely impressed. Well done. Nice contribution.

Thanks mprofitt that's very true I am being careful as that was the 2nd test so is on fairly low settings in simtools think I may put some boot struts on the rear to take some of the weight will update when I do

This was a bad idea as I suspected it is far too top heavy feels like sitting on an unbalanced washing machine so going with the Stewart platform style looks like I'm going to need welding that I was trying so hard to avoid
