    Hi folks,
I'm foraging back into sim racing (after nearly a year of no racing when my rig had to be put away until house renovations allowed me space to set it back up). Having to re-learn simtools all over again.

And the main reason reason for building the rig in the first place was to have VR racing capability.

But now I have bought the Rift CV1 in the Black Friday bundle (2 controllers and 2 sensors) and want to get stuck in again!

But jeez, there looks like a steep learning curve. I've been pouring threw the threads but it's put my head in a spin!
I'm running a GTX970, and the rift works fine with regular games.

Now introducing the Rift into the equation there is a bunch Computational know-how which I don't have.

I will playing Assetto corsa, Dirt Rally, Dirt 3, F1, war thunder, elite dangerous etc...

Some of you brave adventurers have been doing this for some time and would appreciate any tips or know how.

For example, do I only attach one sensor to the computer, mount it close to had height on the rig (on top of steering wheel for example)?

Do I have to run games through Steam VR to allow simtools to see the game, or can I run direct from computer?

Dirt Rally through the oculus store, does it work?

Many questions, and I'm such a noob! Any tips would be greatly appreciated,
    so many thanks in advance!

I run a 2DOF seat mover with CV1 and 2 sensors in my desktop with no problems. I prevent launch of oculus home (for save resources) and launch the games from an icon on the desktop. I play RF2, PC2, R3E, A/C, iRacing and Dirt Rally.

Does Oculus home not open anyway as soon as the headset turns on ?

    @Javo5 Are you running vorpx?

I've also just seen I'm still on simtools 1.3. Is there an advantage to upgrade to 2.o?
Do old plugins and configurations travel over, or do I need to download and install and reconfigure al the games?

There are advantages in upgrading to SimTools 2, in performance, greater capability/tools and most importantly the SimTools 2 plugins are maintained, which is no longer the case for SimTools 2.

No old 1.3 plugins do not work with SimTools 2 and SimTools 1.3 has to be completely removed before installing SimTools 2, but you can make a backup of 1.3 before doing so: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...thout-loosing-your-profiles-and-settings.160/

If eligible you can request a free DIY SimTools 2.0 license, conditions apply: https://www.xsimulator.net/request-diy-key-simtools/

I also used to prevent launching oculus home, but with latest updates and the virtual desktop option I'm no longer using Virtual desktop/bigscreen/envelope
All of them always gave problems (with audio, not going back to the app when I finished driving, etc) oculus home desktop is perfect, little resources, always working when you exit a game, you can pin apps...
Give it a try (enable beta to do it)

Pretty sure Oculus desktop is being rolled out to everyone in the latest update, but there have also been some reported issues that update has caused.

    Thanks @noorbeast
That's very helpful. I don't qualify for a diy licence I built a simukit 2-dof. I will buy the licence and buy a game with inbuilt oculus support and a simtools plugin.
