    Hi all,

i'm basically ready to buy a Oculus Rift. My only dubt is regarding my eyes deficit; in fact, I have glasses like this:
    https://www.occhialiweb.com/ebay/re...aly-New-Occhiali-da-Sole-Sunglasses_86571.JPG

and I don't know if I can use Oculus well or no. I've readed a lot of discussion on the web regarding this problem, and I don't want to buy something that I can't use. Any experience? How can I Be sure that Oculus can fit my face with glasses?

Or do you have good monitor to suggest me instead my dream of oculus at same price? :D

    Thanks
    Mirko

I use Oculus with glasses. I'd say mine were medium size.

I suppose the only way you can see if they are goning to fit is to try them.

If they don't fit you can always get some inserts.

I haven't the possibility to try them:(

So do you have glasses like photo ive posted?
Anyway, what is your opinion about oculus compared to a normal monitor?

    Thanks

I couldn't say whether they fit. They look bigger than mine though.

    Phases of oculus:

1 First time you use it your mind will be blown. Nothing will be the same.

2 After 20 minutes you'll probably feel sick.

3 Then you'll get used to them.

4 After a few few months you might start to miss the resolution of monitors.

5 Try monitors again and find they're completely unusable, go straight back to Oculus.

6 Accept theyre not perfect but far better than 2d monitors and look forward to oculus 2 to come out.

    That's what I've done anyway.

A lot of people can get away without wearing their glasses in VR, including myself.

I don't recommend using traditional glasses with the Rift, as it is not designed for them and one scratch ruins the HMD experience, as it can't be repaired.

If you have to use a 3D printed insert for prescription lenses that fits the Rift: https://vr-lens-lab.com/

My glasses are 140mm wide and just fit into the rift. The glasses usually get stuck inside when removing the rift and I have to then remove them manually.

I’m lucky that I’m far sighted (if I have to be something) and the virtual images in the Vive are some six feet out so I see them fine without my glasses. It was a pleasant surprise that everything close up in VR was all in focus. That’s not real life for me.

For those that do need glasses in VR, as @noorbeast mentioned, there are companies now that will make lens inserts for your rig. The stronger lenses apparently have some fringing issues though. But I’d really recommend inserts instead of trying to wear glasses when in VR. Again, noorbeast said it and it bears repeating - the lenses in the Rift and Vive are plastic and can be scratched. That risk goes way up when wearing glasses. It’s more fiddly if you share your headset with others if you have corrective inserts so that may be a factor, but even if you don’t need correction, flat plate inserts will protect your plastic lenses especially if you clean them a lot since you’ll be cleaning glass instead of plastic. @Blackflam's method with adhesive film is another option but there have been issues with the slightly curved surfaces of the lenses. Some films don’t lay down properly but some do.

But for those that share the headset with enough people where installing and removing corrective inserts would be a bother, if you go with a Vive, it has enough room for flat plate inserts and for people to wear many styles of glasses at the same time. That’s how I’ve got mine set up and it’s so nice to not worry about the actual lenses when someone needs their glasses and puts on my headset.

The DK1 was innovative for its time but is way out of date now. It was IIRC only 3 dof, slow LCD, and had a low refresh rate. It really just showed the potential of VR but not much of the realization. Not sure how much even still works with it. After the Vive and even a DK2, I doubt I’d do anything more with a DK1 than put it on a shelf as a conversation piece.

A DK2 is better, but it’s still low resolution, slow at 75 Hz, but was at least 6 dof. Compatibility with the DK2 is also going or mostly gone away.

Even the current consumer Rift and Vive are getting long in the tooth and hopefully will be getting refreshes soon. Pimax is in the wings. LG, and at least a couple of others, too. But if you can afford it, and your computer is up to it, you would be so much better off with a current Rift or Vive. They are the current standards and the experience is just so much better than the DKs.

If you don’t care for the DK1 it’s no wonder. Just know that’s not the VR experience most are getting now and what is available now is way way better. Don’t give up on it.

i understand your point, but i beleave the glasses are not for peaople with lot of effort invested in DIY lots of stuff for their simulator or play seats, like i said before, button boxes, displays, and lots of light etc.. anyway i will try to see where to test a good glasses to see more different between the dk1 and i know there are not the best to compare..

I don't wear my glasses in VR, but have thought about using this solution:

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1602460

It's a 3d printable insert for the rift, which uses a set of lenses you can get from Zenni for $10 USD. It'd be a less expensive option than using one of the paid-solutions. There is a link to the specific lenses in the description.

Thingiverse actually has a number of lens-insert options that might work. If have access to a 3d printer, or if you can use one of the many online 3d-print-for-me communities (I believe the 3d printer category in this community allows requests to print items, but I am not sure if it must be sim-related, I know reddit also has one..).

I have this, when I first got my CV1 at Christmas, I used it but found it was touching my eyebrows and I found it uncomfortable and removed it, but having used the CV1 and now having it adjusted to fit it does not touch my eyebrows and would recomend it, also if my prescription changes I can get new lenses fairly cheaply (im in the UK) even tho they are posted from abroad. Easy to fit just remember to get them the right way up:) I dont have a 3d printer and got mine printed though Thingiverse.

    Hi,
I use to wear glasses in my CV1. Could not get comfortable in the long run. I then switched to contacts. Unfortunately my left eye does not like it very much and gets blurred after 20-30 minutes wearing them. I even considered laser eye surgery. Luckily I found these: https://vr-lens-lab.com/ being reviewed on youtube by a sim racing channel.
They are perfect for ppl with glasses! just drop in your prescription. I have used CV1 with these in iRacing for 3 hours non stop and have been using them ever since. It is the reason I love VR.
    cheers
