    Hi all

I'm totally new here, just getting back into simracing
I have an obutto ozone and Oculus CV1 / Buttkicker Chasis / Extensions combo.

I'd like to upgrade to a motion rig and have a few questions for those of you in the know

    1) Is Traction loss really all that important that i should invest in 3dof? or should i just stick with 2dof

    2) is there any point looking for a motion rig with specific motors? i.e. are the scn6's significantly better than the motors in the Next Level V3 / DOF Reality or vice versa?

    3) Which one should i get :)

the DOF Reality seems to come in the cheapest? but i can't double check this as their website has been down for over a day now....

i'm fairly sure it was coming in at around £1500 or so - but i know nothing more about them as their website doesn't share a lot of information. I think it requires fixing my chair to it - i'm also unsure of the whole balancing act that would be required after i start attaching my components to it.

    The one i'm leaning towards (Prosimu t1000 3dof) is £3000 - and has SCN6 + Chair + entire frame.

The Next Level V3 i "think" is like wiper motors? and i would be fixing my existing chair onto this (which could turn out to be a less than ideal solution. its £2300.

thanks for your help in advance: )

In my opinion you should look into NJMotion's rigs.

They are priced more towards DOFReality prices (with the advantage that you won't have to pay for import taxes - well, at least while UK is in UE ;) ), you don't have the whole balancing problem and you also do not have the noise involved in actuators.

You can take a look at my thread for the review I made for NJMotion.

    Cheers,
    Nuno

this system looks pretty big! - it is €2800 + Shipping - i imagine we are looking at the same price as the ProSimU T1000 with TL and a Seat

From reading a few different posts about the place i think its recommended to go with the P3 system in the DOF Reality range - which i think is about $2500 + $500 shipping and aparently £450 import tax to UK so in all - £2700 ish

I'm still swayed toward the T1000 at the minute for the finish and quality.

The prices of all three systems are pretty much the same when you consider all things involved. NJMotion is indeed a big system but it is quite well made, robust and adjustable. I cannot speak for the others since I have never seen them first hand.

However, for me the deciding factor was noise and the ability to move my large arse without concerns :)

ProSimu for sure, you move entirely the body of the pilot. You have Scn6 actuators.
You could update to T1000 4, 5 or 7 motion in the futur.....

    Thanks

Just by way of update, after weighing up the various systems i opted for the ProSimU T1000 3DOF

not sure how long delivery will take but if practically sitting at the window waiting on it now

Just an FYI for anyone else - i received information from Next Level that they are working on a traction loss addon..
the reason i didn't opt for them in the end was by the time you buy there system / hack my current system onto it / or buy their seat + add the cost of forthcoming TL - its gonna be the same / more expensive than the prosimu.

Hi, I am more than happy with the 2dof but definitely want the traction loss add-on. It's amazing with VR. On my mobile so can't link to 3dof but it's on his site. Will try later :)

I wrote a long review about it on here so best read that about my thoughts on the rig.

    Cheers :)

Ahaa alright, how much did it cost? Because I’m thinking of buying the 3dof from dofreality.com, so I want to know is this one a little bit better or MUCH better than that and if it’s worth the price or not

Not sure if it's worth the money but I would suggest the ProsimuT1000 rig is probably a little more robust (although I dont have experience of the T1000 rig).

I bought the DofReality P3 rig based on the huge difference in cost for what seems to do the same thing and while I am vey happy with the rig and the motion is more than adequate I sometimes wonder if I should have paid the extra.

One thing to consider is the very small footprint of the P3 rig. If you have a relativily small space to put your rig then the DofReality rig is ideal. Traction loss is very good although I did have to relace the traction loss rollers after only a few months (and I'm really not that heavy).

Balance is a massive thing with the DofReality rig. You really have to make quite a lot of adjustments until you have the moving mass balanced over the universal joint. Once you have that sorted, the P3 rig really is capable of throwing you around.

Hopoe that helps your decision making a little

ahh thanks. I think i'll buy the 3dof from dofreality then, BUT, you said you wished you could've paid the extra..you mean you wish you could've bought the prosimu instead..?

also, dofreality told me they have two 3dof versions, v3 and p3. v3 is $1499 while p3 is $1999, should i go for the v3 or is the p3 much better in terms of movements..?

What I meant was, if I had more cash to spend then the Prosimu rig is possibly a better rig, but I'm not really sure if the extra money is worth it. The prosimu uses (I think) more powerful actuators.

But, saying that, the DofReality rig, once set up properly, is more than capable of throwing you around. I genuinly dont think I would have any more fun if I spent more cash (PM me and I can send you a vid of how much the rig can throw you around). And because I have had to play around quite a lot with the DofReality rig, I have learned a lot, which is a bonus.

The difference between the v3 and the p3 are the motors used. The p3 uses more powerful motors and I suspect (but don't really know) are a little faster actuating. Amount of travel I think would be the same with the v3 and the p3 but I don't know for sure. The biggest problem with the DofReality rig in my opinion is the slop in the worm drives. Because of that slop, its translated into quite a bit of un controlled movement of the rig. It's far from it being a problem but I did look into replacing the motor and worm drives with linear actuators but it would have cost as much again for actuators that could just replace and still work with the contoller hardware and software.

As I said, other than cost, its the overall footprint of the DofReality rig that is great. It really isn't a lot bigger than a seat mover. It's the mounting of the pedals and wheel that increases the size. All the actual motion hardware is pretty much under your seat.

Oh yeah, just a point of note, you will have to buy a seat. DofReality doesnt supply. But thats good because you can go get seat you want.

Happy to discuss futher any issues or concerns you may have. Buying the P3 rig wasn't the most stress free purchase in my life but I still think the P3 rig is a great proce for fun.

just like to chime in that im still building my T1000 atm.

It takes quite a bit of time to set up - i also had to spend some extra time (and money) painting the unpainted MDF that arrived with it
The instructions can be a little unclear and the bolting system uses to pull everything together is really tedious and i feel like there HAS to be a better solution for it.

However now that it is all set up it is looking good - i have no idea where im going to mount my handbrake though - and i would have liked to see a left hand drive version of it as currently you can only mount to the wheel stand on the right hand side
I've opted to mount mine to the base to the left of the cockpit - but with the gears on the left and the natural entry point being the left hand side it makes it "slightly" more difficult to get in and out.

i haven't plugged it all in yet to see how it performs - hopefully this evening

RE: the DOF Reality - you need to factor in how much you are going to get stung for import tax and VAT which you will get hit with if you are in the EU.
once you do that it adds about £400-500 onto the unit and brings it back in line with the prosimu price - and i do think the prosimu is a bit more professional looking when its complete.

The shipping and costs and import taxes are indeed an issue.

But in some parts of the world that applies whichever rig you choose to buy. You should consider that because the DofReality rig is cheeper, the import taxes are cheeper as well.

Got mine all set up, is anyone familiar with this system?

Works brilliant with assetto Corsa but was surprised to find I got motion sick with dirt rally. And I’m not sure what needs adjusting !

I don't have one but with respect to motion sickness the usual trigger is a disconnect between visual and motion stimulation that your brain can't reconcile, it normally happens when the movement of the rig is not quick and precise enough.

Try lowering the Axis Allocations and Tuning Center Values a bit, the latter sharpens motion over a smaller range, see here for steps to refine your motion profile: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steps-to-create-a-motion-profile.228/

    Pretty fair review I'd say.

Had the same issue with my traction loss rollers and it's nothing to do with mounting the monitors. I also had two rollers fail and I project my image onto a wall. Seems DoFReality have upgraded their rig with solid rollers which I think is good. I had my own nylon rollers made and problem went away. I think I posted a design for the rollers on one of the other DofReality threads.
