Does the motor get too hot to touch? If so then it needs cooling, sounds like the MM needs cooling as well because you should really avoid over heating in the first place. Heat causes insulation to break down and over time will create a short on the motor winding. Getting so hot that the MM goes into thermal shutdown is also bad as it could damage the MM and every time you get it that hot, you effectively reduce its lifespan.

Just read through your posts about the motor issues a bit more carefully. I had the same issues with one of my motors. It would get hotter than the other motor and eventually got very weak and then stopped working all together. I took the motor apart and I can see the exact same thing with your motor. Your commutator looks burnt where the brushes are contacting and you should also look for debris in between the commutator plates (slots that separate the poles). Once I cleaned mine up with some 1000 grit sand paper it operated fine but still got hot, I can only assume manufacturing defect or just that they are being used not for what they are designed for.

I did also fix the heating issue:

I drilled and filed holes where the brushes are mounted and hand formed some ducting out of tin sheet to make the fan duct mount. I then ground out slots in the other end of the motor case for air to be drawn through. If you do this make sure not to grind any of the magnet.

    Hi @Alexey

Thx for sharing your experience here. Look like You have the same motors as me indeed. Temperature of the motors is coresponding to what You set in SMC3 Ustility. When I set the PWmax to 140 (was 240) motors are much colder now and there are no noticable difference in motion dynamics. But I think that this type of motor is not good in counstruction that I have chosen.

I was thinking that this is normal situation when commutator is daker in the place where the brushes come. Noveremind at the moment because I used my warranty so now I have new motor and this one is working nice.

And regarding to your earlier post - I'm sure you are right that every over heating the parts causes their shorter lifetime.

Tell my how much less hotter are your motors now - with additional cooling holes?

The commutator should be darker but not too dark, maybe It looks darker to me and I could be wrong.
    Here is a handy guide:
    http://www.gulfelectroquip.com/technical.php?technicalname=commutator
From this we can tell that the motor is experiencing high loads and streaking.

My motor with the fan stays cold to touch even in high loads. No doubt the armature inside will be heating up but the fan would be keeping it at a much lower temperature than normal.

I dont want to drill any holes in my motors because of warranty, but after same time I will. I can see this is very nice solution for motors heat. Thx!

Hi Guys! I'm looking for a help one more time. This time I've got problem with ir plugin (i've got updated last version) and position of my two motors in the GSeat.

Take a look at the picture:

    gseat ir problem.png
It's a view from the top. As You can see the two flaps are not near the back in neutral position (when car stops). I think the problem is coused by the plugin and arduino code at the same time. Because of limitation of the Simtools software, @RufusDufus gave me the solution here (I changed Ardu code to move motors only with positive values of acceleartion). Now these two flaps moves only in one direction (during acceleration). Probably the IR plugin works in some different way then AC. RF2 or pCARS beacuse these titles work OK. I've got problem only in IR ;(

Do You have some ideas Guys how can I repair neutral position in IR?

I've read somewhere to stabilize the platform is good to use larger worm gear like 50:1 instead of 25:1, is it true? I have springs mounted to my chair, but I really want to have my seat more stable when my motors are off.

Correct, 50:1 hold their power off position Much Much Much better than 25:1

Thx, so one more question - if I used 50:1 instead of 25:1 would it change the characteristics of my motor? Does it loose his speed or something?

Yes you trade speed for torque, for a given lever length, but of course lever lengths can be changed, you can play with the basic physics using SimCalc: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...e-linear-speed-and-forces-of-your-design.270/

Keep in mind the longer a lever the more pronounced the free play in wormdrive gearboxes.

I found brand new 50:1s could not be back driven when unpowered in a compact design, but could be back driven after it had been used for a year, though it takes a bit to do it. I have found 60:1s in my compact design can't be back driven when new or after years of use.

The 50:1's are a great upgrade. Not only for their ability to hold on power off, but the torque upgrade is excellent.
I had to re-do all my profiles when I moved to 50:1 as I was getting smacked in the back of the head by my chair, such is the force that the 50:1's can exert. (YMMV depending on lever length, motor placement, balance etc)

Gr8 ti hear! Thx guys, I will look after some good but not so expensive 50:1 motor.

Is there a way to make two different profiles in game manager for the same game? In my case I'd like to have different things for heli and a plane during play DCS.
