    Firstly I would like to thank everyone here for your wealth of knowledge. I had never used arduino before and have no real electrical experience and have managed to build a sim from scratch from reading all of your posts.
    I have just competed my full frame 2 dof sim and have tested it successfully. I am using SMC3 with Arduino, 2 x MM, 2 x HP server PSU and 50:1 motors.
    I was wondering how people have dealt with the slack in the gearbox of these motors?

    Great to see your rig and I look forward to a future video of it in action :thumbs

    A little bit of weight bias on the motor, rather than perfect balance, helps reduce how noticeable free play is.

    The longer the CTC the more noticeable the free play, so keep the CTC as short as it can be for your design goals.

    All wormdrives have a bit of free play, and need it for lubrication, it is more apparent after some use but this is about average:

    Thanks @noorbeast My motors seem to have a little bit more than that but I will try as you suggest and shorten the CTC and increase the movement in game.
    I will be adding a seat belt with tension springs on the shoulder straps to simulate braking. I am hoping this is enough to overcome the play.

    Thats looking good, impressed. Do you thing the wheel base will hold a direct drive? If so, I may make mine the same way.

    I haven't had the pleasure of using a direct drive so I'm not sure. I fabricated the frame from 40 x 1.6 SHS so it's light but fit for purpose.

    I've noticed the free play as well in my 25:1 motors pgsaw. Since its just the guest rig it works but im always a bit disappointed when driving it after my scn rig. While it will kick hard the lost precision is an immersion killer in comparison. That said the cost was a little less at about 25% cost for say 65%ish performance so all in all good value

    looking good - i too have the sim bug !

    already thinking about building sim no 2 and if i should make one for larger people (my first sim is a bit cramped if you are tall !)

    i have a driving seat and will look to do 2dof and traction loss on it in the most simple way

    A properly balanced rig has no Noticeable gear slop.

    ALL worm gear's will have Some play in the gears....its just the way it has to be.

    Here is a video of my mate trying it out. You can here the play in the motors but I have made improvements since.

    I am planing on adding traction loss but not for a while yet.
