    Hello everyone!.

My name is Fabian, I am from Argentina. I am 43 years old. I am a systems engineer and I like racing cars.
    I have a static cockpit + oculus. I'm setting up my 2dof.
First I tried to use a gyroscope to detect the inclination but I was not successful. It's time to go by the hall pots.
I'll use arduino one + 2 Moto monster (one per engine)
I will soon show my progress.

    Hello everybody,
My name Patrick, I am French, I live in south of France (Toulouse), and I am very very very happy to join this amazing forum !!!
My project is the development of a full move simulator 6 dof:
-> for pitch, roll and heave: +/-30° (minimum) and 50cm min using special actuators (based on monophase induction motors 220V hoist + levers + home made variators V/F generated o phases at 90° -> because not sure this kind of variator exists)
-> for surge & sway, I plan to have only a seat mover with 4 slides and little moves (+/-4cm, using 12V or 24V continuous motors)
-> for yaw, the full simulator will rotate on it (+/-40° min), with roulettes. I do not know what kind of motor I will use,
So a great project, I hope I will success in...
See you soon (and sorry if I make some mistakes in English...)

    Howdy,

I'm psymin and I really dig games. First time I raced in a motion simulator rig was probably a decade ago and I couldn't get enough of it. Unfortunately that was also the last time.

Now I'm a VR enthusiast (a couple HTC Vives) and I'm considering setting up a portable two person motion simulator VR game setup.

Definitely new to the motion sim community. I begrudgingly use Windows 10 on my VR boxes (I'm an linux gamer).

Any suggestions on what type of motion sim rig I should get? I was looking at the "DOF REALITY P3" for convenience and durability.

Think these units would travel well in a trailer? What advice do you have for a n00b? (reading FAQ now)

    Hello forum,

I am Otisman. The first racing game I remember getting right into was "Test Drive" some time in the 80's when I was probably around 10 years old. Racing simulators have no doubt improved somewhat since then! I started programming in BASIC around the same time, and now 30 years later my job is developing electronics control devices for various aplications. I have plenty of experience in developing schematics, pcb artwork, software, and engineering the mechanical aspects of these products. I also have contacts in various trades, such as CNC machining and industrial design that can help along the way too. I also have experience with Solidworks, and use it all the time for designing all sorts of things, from small plastic parts and sheetmetal, to large architectural designs. I've wanted to build my own motion simulator rig for a while, and have a few ideas floating. The first stumbling block was how to extract the required data from the game/simulator - and that is how I came here. I want to start simple. The first thing I want to do is just make something that will display the forces on an LED strip or similar - just to prove that I have the data to work with. Then I will move on to the mechanical side of it.

    Welcome @Leo Salo.

You have a range of potential options for testing:

You can test SimTools without a simulator: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/testing-simtools-without-a-simulator.171/

You can drive a SketchUp model with SimTools: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/how-to-animate-sketchup-3d-model-with-simtools.209/

You can build a cheap working model using RC servos and an Arduino: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/build-a-working-model-to-test-your-design-ideas.216/

You can output a Sinusoid: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/output-a-sinusoid.10283/#post-133006

You will find those plenty of other handy information to get you started in the FAQs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

@Leo Salo - just an idea so for whatever it's worth, have a look at @mirkobastianini's thread (https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/2dof-frame-mover-my-compact-simulator.9968/). In his first post he has a video of an R/C servo based test model. That way you can get the whole communications train in place and see how this all works together. Then it's just scaling up. It would possibly give more insight than lights and everything would be directly applicable. But the lights would be cool too and would make for a neat display on a running rig!

Thanks @noorbeast some really good links there. I've pretty much found all I need to get started. @Zed that is pretty neat! I probably will make a scale model first. I had a pretty productive first couple of hours experimenting. I downloaded "Live for Speed" for it's free plugin (as I can't download the other ones yet), got the Simtools game manager and engine worked out and operational. Game patched, etc. Dug out an old Raspberry Pi-A that was laying around gathering dust, and decided to write a very basic Udp server program to communicate via the network (mainly because I didn't have any other easy way to connect to the pi). Much to my surprise it worked! It just displays the incoming DOF values in the terminal - but I think that's a pretty good start for a newcomer! Much less painful than I had anticipated! Thanks again everyone.

Hey guys, I've been lurking in here for a few months. Currently using a static PVC rig (simul8r design) and thought that was enough, even after seeing multiple seat mover designs... That was until I saw saw Avenga's rig with traction loss on YouTube one day. That sold it to me, and I'm finally ready to take the dive. Stand by for build thread and questions (looking at you @Avenga76 , lol)

Will do. Still going to be a bit. Picking stuff up piece by piece. I'll start the thread up when I've got enough to at least show some progress.

It pays to start a build thread even in the planning stage, so you can bounce ideas and possible intended purchases off members...it will save you time, frustration and money.
