Robert here. Newb as well and exploring all the resources. Finally decided it was time to go motion and just a matter of deciding what to start with to make that happen. Software and electronics experience but limited shop access. The extruded stuff is looking good because of that but it's a second choice though much more practical than... Would love to have the equipment to bend and weld large diameter tubing but that's just a pipe dream me thinks. We have a local powder coating place that could turn something like that into a work of art. Lots of decisions ahead.

Thanks, Noorbeast! Definitely won't be turning a wrench until I've had the time to really learn what I'm doing. I just ordered a wind simulator kit to start down this path of no return, though. It should pair nicely with my simple seat shaker and VR. Really looking forward to all of this. Thanks for the links!

    Hi all,

I'm Eric, SIMracer for many years.
I picked up the hobby again 2 years ago after a period where I was mainly into RC.
Started to design my own rig now where I like to start with a 2 DOF seat shaker setup.
Already read a lot of valuable information here, great forum!

    Hello!
This is my first exploration into motion simulation.
I'm a furniture maker and would like to design a simulator that can emulate the feeling of a boat gently rocking, or a train in motion. Maximum travel would be less than 2 inches and would use 4 individual cylinders - either hydraulic or pneumatic (which ever is the quietest )
I've done a little bit with Arduino's so if that was a suitable processor that would be good.
Any direction on where I should apply my limited time and resources would be great.
    Many thanks,
    -Charles

    Welcome @CFreeborn.

DC motors would be the easiest, cheapest and quietest way to go to power you intended rocking sim.

Hello everyone, I'm James Farrar and I'm from Dallas Texas. I am interested in building a 2 dof motion platform based on the joyrider design. I don't have any sort of back ground in engineering or tinkering with electronics except outside putting together my own PC.

I had just finished my Sim Pit build when I stumbled across this site. I wish I hadn't, because now I know I definitely still have work to do. Some of the stuff you guys have built is amazing.

I now need to look at getting a 6 DOF rig, my problem is going to be welding stuff, as its something I have never done before; anyhow here is my current set up.

    Thermaltake Core P5
    Intel 6700k processor
    MSI Z170A Gaming Motherboard
    32Gb Vengence memory
    MSI FE GTX1080ti graphics card
    3x 500gb Intel SSD drives
    1x 1Tb Intel SSD drive
    950 Pro 512GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe SSD

EK waterblocks for motherboard, processor, memory and GPU with a 420mm Monster rad, TT fans and Mayhems 16mm glass tubing.

Predator X34A super wide screen monitor
Acoustic Energy Aego 3 Soundbar and sub
    Oculus Rift.
    Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS.
Thrustmaster T300 Racing Wheel Ferrari Alcantara Edition.
    Thrustmaster T3PA-Pro Add-On Pedal Set.

The sim pit is a Obutto Revolution with a customised seat that has vibration motors from a KW 908 -jet seat built into it. I also attached a trackless keyboard and mouse tray that folds up out of the way, but is easily lowered for FPS games or general web browsing.

I am seeing temps of 41ºc under full load with my GPU running at 2100Mhz and my processor at 4.2Ghz, so not bad.

Managed to squeeze it all into a little 6 x 9ft box bed room.

    Welcome @Fluke.

I love your PC rig, it is really slick.

Unfortunately the video you posted has restricted playback because of UMG content.

While you could take a very deep swan dive into a 6DOF it is a costly and somewhat complex first time project. Just a thought, you could consider modifying your existing Obutto Revolution as a first stage, to dip your toe in the motion sim water, then re-purpose the parts for a future 6DOF when you have a bit of experience. Here are some nice examples:

Hi zkilla! Upload photos of your project. Have you created your own thread? The truth is that I can not help you much at the moment ... I'm also asking for help and advice here, that there are very nice people.
I use 24V motors, arduino, I do not know what software would be better for your SCN6 actuators. Good luck and you're already telling us !!
