    Hi Guys
A quick drift video and i will say it again im no drifter lol but having a rip around the drift track with this wheel i can say you can feel the weight of the car and traction being lost the wheel spins with the weight and direction of the cars travel as it should and feels just right to me anyway lol @MIR05LAV

Thanks a lot Daguru ! Yes looks like the speed is there:)
Now I just need to wait for the controller board and test it myself:) Was it hard to build? What was the cost in UK?:)
    Cheers!

    @MIR05LAV
Yeah build wise I found easy the build guide on the website is very good and detailed https://sites.google.com/site/steppersimwheel/build-guide
And was up and running in no time.

Cost wise I'm not sure what the final cost of the stepper controller board will be including shipping etc but all the other parts in total was about £190 so far but I had bits in the workshop and a case to put the electronics in, also that don't inc a steering wheel as that's a personal choice and the range in cost is massive

H Shifter and pedals I'm using my old g27 so all I need to do now is make some paddle shifters

What wheel you upgrading from ?

Last I checked (a while ago) it was doing about 220rpm but should get 300rpm once a few things sorted out.

That IIRC is much more than accuforce:)

    https://forum.studio-397.com/index....-systems-osw-bodnar.48590/page-18#post-808829

"For comparison, the bodnar's 480W psu and 1.6 Nm/A torque coefficient allows for a sustainable torque output up to 290 RPM (pretty much the same as the 300 RPM soft-capped limit with Argon driven OSW motors). Compare that to the AF Pro's 176 RPM limit which is nearly half."

    Good!

Out of curiosity, where does the 176RPM figure for the AccuForce come from?

Different AccuForce modes have different limits / capabilities. I'm going from memory here, but as I recall, we limited the RPM to something in the 250- 500RPM range for most modes. I think most notable exception to that is the Rookie mode, which is enabled by default when we ship the product. This mode is intended for children so the goal with it was to limit speed, acceleration and torque to values that could not break their fingers if they stuck them in the wheel rim spokes. This was a difficult calculation to make and no one wanted to provide test children :) so I used a #2 pencil and backed th4e settings down until I was no longer breaking it. I believe that came out somewhere in the low 100RPM range with about 5 or 6Nm. While this is a significant reduction of the overall AccuForce capability, it's proven to be a useful mode for things like my family reunions, etc..

All this said, RPM (speed) is probably one of the least important metrics. Far more important are acceleration and torque application. Rarely in a driving scenario will the wheel ever accelerate fast enough and move far enough to get anywhere near the safety limits we have in place, even in the child mode because of either an end stop or the next physics instruction asks us to apply torque in the opposite direction.

If you have an AccuForce, you can experiment with this using our Visual Lap Analyzer. It captures near realtime telemetry of the AccuForce (at 1000Hz) and pairs that with the vehicle physics data. You can see what RPM, acceleration rate, etc.. the AccuForce was at at a given point on the track.

    Hi All
Just wanted to pass on some final thoughts on the Son of OSW wheel
@RufusDufus has been working hard with a steady flow of updates coming my way each one making a noticeable improvement and the wheel is now feeling even smoother and quieter.

I'm really happy with it from how easy it was to build right through to how well it performs, I must point out the best wheel I've used to date has been the g27 so I can only compare it to that and it's way better in every way !!!!!

I feel my driving has improved I'm more consistent with lap times and crash less as the FFB gives me a better feeling of what the car is doing.

So if you are using a wheel on or around the g27 spec I can highly recommend getting one of these, I'm hoping to test a T500 soon so I can compare that as well.

For me it ticks all the boxes and with the bonus of it using the stm disco board with the mmos FFB software it has good options for shifters, pedals and a button box all from one windows device.

To sum up I can't really find anything negative to say about this wheel I love using it ( it calls me when I'm working lol)

Hi all. I hope it's ok but I joined up because I'm very interested in the progress of this. I'm curious though, have you tried using the Assetto corsa LUT generator? A lot use it with both dd and standard wheels to create a more linear torque curve, it would be interesting to see how much correction a stepper motor wheel would require, if any at all that is. I can't link it I don't think because I'm a new member, but easy to find on racedepartment if you google search it! Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I haven't seen anything.

DD motor's are perfectly Linear, ZERO point to run a Custom .Lut file.

Yes I completely agree DD wheels should always be linear, and whenever I test a new wheel I rarely use a LUT as it's almost never needed. But there can always be discrepancies in some cases and with some motors where it may require a bit of tweaking, which is why I like to test. Of course that is just my experience, which is by no means based on any professional understanding :p. I just tend to come down on the side of caution even when there is very little possibility of there actually being an issue!

    Hi all
I managed to get the loan of a brand new t500 i only had it for about 5 hours though, to be fair the t500 is a nice wheel however it's not a patch on the SSW I found the t500 when FFB was turned up high it got very clunky in both noise and feeling, the SSW however stays tight and strong and just feels a whole lot better, so in a nut shell for me the SSW has better FFB feelings and is way stronger.

I have a few extra "field trial" boards for sale if there are any Aussies that would like one. They are $150 + $10 standard parcel postage with signature. For comparison the expected price of the final boards will be $220 + shipping. Payment by paypal.

These boards are hand built and have components on the back of them to bring them to the final build spec as shown in the pics.

If you are interested send me a PM but have a read of my website first so you understand what is required to build a complete wheel... https://sites.google.com/site/steppersimwheel/home

    Hi All,

Been asked if i can show some pictures of how i mounted the encoder so i thought i would put all the pictures i got so far.
I stripped the motor to use a lathe but you could easily use a pillar drill, the strip down took minutes and was very easy, one tip would be to take it apart on a clean board with no metal swarf etc then tape it up because it has strong magnet pull

    Hi everyone!
I have received the board from RufusDufus some time ago. Unfortunately had some encoder problems, waiting for a new one from China, but my SSW wheel is working anyway (without centering after power ON, but everything else is ok).
Previously had TM t300rs with 32cm Sparco rim.
    In a few words:
SSW is ~3 times stronger, ~2 times faster, has better initial acceleration, is more brutal and more responsive:) I like it strong, I am using it at arounf 70%, so I am able to feel some coggling, but nothing serious and I know Daguru is working on making it better and better! Cannot really feal it during driving, more when standing still. Will post some test when everything will be finished, but It is already on par or better than AF in acceleration and rotation speed!
