I see a lot of videos here and people are using the in cockpit view. I find that view very distracting with the second steering wheel and the computer driver doing gearchanges.

I understand it if you are using vr I guess but to me its just a reduced FOV and needless distracting elements on screen.

I personally prefer the bonnet view or bumper cam. There is already a 'cockpit' in front of me I don't need another one!

What view do you use and why do you prefer it?

I prefer the cockpit view, it gives a better idea about how effective the motion profile is and if some change should be suggested.

Some other view may be better if I was watching just for entertainment, but frankly I don't do that.

I use a projector too. Those videos do look awesome, I might have to give that a try.

Trouble is my wheel and pedals move with the seat but I have been considering going seat mover only so I can adjust for different people without moving the balance point.

You are right. It's counter intuitive and I thought moving the whole rig would be more realistic but I think I preferred the movement when I was testing the sim at a desk with just seat movement.

A bit off thread, but my two cents worth :).
Three things off the top of my head that will impact these two designs:
    1. Weight/inertia:
Seat movers (if built in a similar manner) have lower weight and therefore lower inertia than a full frame, which will give a higher reactive and more realistic 'feel' to the sim.
    2. Roll centre:
Most (not all:)) full frame sims have a lower roll center than what would be realistic in a standard sports car or race car.
I picked the video below as it really shows (even exaggerates) what I am talking about above.

If your trying to simulate a sports/race car then the roll center should be as close as possible to the bottom of your seat.

    3. Too much movement in a low roll center sim:
If you do have full frame with a low roll center , try not to have big movements, as it just exaggerates the high inertia and unnatural roll center, which can even make some people sick. Big movements are not common in a seat mover as it moves you too far from the static controls.

IMO: Having owned both a seat mover and now a full-frame 6DOF, I do like the full frame better and it helps when the design has a low mass frame and realistic roll center. (Note: with some 6DOF software (BFF) the Roll Center can be adjusted). But in the end just have fun with your sim :thumbs.

Cockpit view for me, although I kinda get pissed off at the A-pillars getting in the way of my view.
Would be great to have the opaque or semi transparent, yes sure that ain't realistic but in real life it is easy to slightly move your head to see around the pillar.

I find it interesting that people think a seat mover is more realistic.
To me a seat mover would be like driving with the drivers seat unbolted from the floor.
I have seen some vids of seat movers where the driver varies from 6" to 16" away from the steering wheel, l have never been in a real .car where that happens
