Question Power Rating on elec. Motors

    Can someone clear up the power rating on electric motors....

    The original motors mentioned at the beginning of this thread, where 12V and 23A
    so to me as electric background that is 12V x 23A = 276 W (ignoring any heat loss / inefficientency)
    The motors from Australia, mentioned above, are only 200W so less powerful ?

    I asked a electric motor supply, who wants to sell 120W motor
    but he kept going on about the gearbox ratio.

    Surely I want the most powerful (highest W power) motor that the JRKs can take,
    then choose / fit the gearbox depending on: type of sim / weight / leverage used ?

    l'm not going to tell you what motor/gearbox to get.
    Power input to a brushed permanent magnet motor taking in to consideration friction,heat and other losses will be 80% at best and closer to 70%.
    276w power input @~72% =200w rated motor power output

    That is okay - I just want a way to compare different motors.

    So I currently using front wiper motors from Ford Focus,
    I measured them, they draw up to 20A under load.
    so 12V x 20A - 70% so they are approx. max. = 168W motors
    So 120W are worse then I have, right ?

    Without a supplied graph stating the current/torque curve the power rating given to a motor is just a ballpark figure.
    My 200W motors were drawing well over 300W from the power supply.
