This Rift VR helmet has been made to create more realistic mixed reality videos, though it does contribute to issues such as lens fogging.

Well I suppose if your use to wearing a helmet irl and it makes it a more real life sim experience for you, then by all means ......but for myself, the rift gets warm enough by itself and I don't want the extra weight from helmet either. ;)As you can see from video this guy takes it to the extremes...helmet, jacket, gloves..... To each their own!

but it is simulation at the end of the day and can be the next bit of that as heat is mega in a race car so being emersed in vr like this is good but like you say how far do you go.
i was building the same thing out an old helmet and stopped when i played with another good helmet on the monitor and boy does it get hot and thats without the cv1 on aswell.
but real is real and simming is all about how far you can go with it.

brill to see but like you i will prob not go ahead now and finnish mine was going to use the dk2 for it helmets stripped already.
i posted the dk2 to a member to try vr see if it was for them, but now he is not happy as its cost him for a new cv1 ! lol

If your hot with all that on, just get a cool suit :)- not for me - my sim room with CV1 is hot enough in an Australian summer as it is . Reminds me of one summer track day when the officials would not let us ride with our windows down if we did not have window netting. It was just ridiculously hot to the point were I just said F##it and turned the aircon on .

The cool purpose of this VR helmet is not really for general use when simming, or the realism of the simming experience, but rather what it adds in terms of realism for shooting mixed reality race related video.

So in some respects the driver being uncomfortable is actually more about the viewing pleasure of the video consumer and I do think you will see more of this style of mixed reality video production in all sorts of game genres.

With the Vive puck announcement yesterday it is easy to connect one to a camera so you can move the camera when shooting a mixed camera video. You can also have people dress up and carry real objects as say weapons and shoot the game play in mixed reality, with the person being shown in the game scene, with the game weapons oir objects being tracked 1:1.

I think we'll soon have the chance to quick scan real objects, stuck a sensor on them e see them in VR

Indeed, trackers makes doing that a cinch, but for now it is the Vive that is first to market!

    He sooooo needs motion..

Without the head bobbing around it just looks odd.

(Got to appreciate the technical aspect of pulling off the video though!)
