2DOF + Traction Loss - Parts for sale

    Hi,

    Finally started my own thread after reading many others thread
    Ive decided I would like to build 2DOF with traction loss with car racing being exclusively used at this stage
    I currently have a static RSeat seat, triple monitors
    The build I would like to end up with would be similar to @Pit, neat & tidy with an aggressive edge

    Reading @eaorobbie & @bsft I have decided to travel the road of JRK... Not into programming

    I am currently trying to order / secure
    • 3 x Worm Drive Motor 12V/24V 200W, 180 RPM, 20Nm Torque motors
    • 3 x Pololu Jrk 12v12 USB Motor Controller with Feedback
    • 3 x BI TECHNOLOGIES / TT ELECTRONICS 6127V1A180L.5FS SENSOR, HALL, 0.2V, +20V TO -10V, PIN
    These have all be recommended for seat shakers throughout the forum

    I have been reading about PSU using LED PSU though still don't have a clear understanding.
    Will one PSU be enough for each motor?

    I would like to utilise my current "frame" to help my first version motion simulator
    I do not want the wheel / pedals to move, static only
    Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
    Ive uploaded some photos of my current rig, input would be greatly appreciated
    ... I tried to include my current seat though unable to upload until 5 posts..

    I intend to build a RC servo model to test and fiddle with software to enhance my understanding

    @Shyboy Buy a Arduino to do the tests with RC servo and when you order the Arduino get a TM1638 module to make a dashboard when you finish testing

    @Shyboy , yes one PSU per motor and MAKE SURE they are rated at 40 amps each.
    For testing servos, I recall @eaorobbie had a code for an arduino to test servos.
    Not sure if servos can be tested with JRK. Ask pololu on that one.

    I have been on a miniature shopping spree to help build a RC Model to test
    @noorbeast I purchased the ardouino from your link,
    @insanegr TM1638 ordered to ensure parts not wasted. Also great tip to make dashboard ... Mods are never ending
    @bsft I will suss out the PSU on eBay once I have mastered the RC testbed
    @eaorobbie I have downloaded your RC zip file and read your post, hopefully my first experience will be positive with little frustration ... I will advise

    As @insanegr suggests an Arduino will never go astray, you can use it for a dash, wind machine and any other creative purpose.

    Ive also just purchased 3 x Worm Drive Motor 12V/24V 200W, 180 RPM, 20Nm Torque as recommended by plenty on this site ... they will be placed in the cupboard until my trial with RC servos proves successful and I have designed my sim

    I would like to utilise the equipment I have to improve my understanding of the building process and my requirements including enjoyment and available space

    Ive upload some photos of my current static rig, RSeat, and would like some personal opinion on designs that could be carried out by me

    My intention is still to build 2DOF + traction loss

    My thoughts with the RSeat would be to have a compact seat shaker design

    Tractions loss has me a little confused with two concepts being either lazy susan bearing under my chair on top of the U joint though I feel this will give too much movement
    The other, an better thought, is to placate bearing at the front lower to the frame with wheel at the rear of the rig as displayed in many posts here. If I too this path I am unsure who the bearing would fit into the front of the frame and design
    Im also thinking about including a 3rd servo in the RC model, after success with 2 to allow me to understand the correct movement that I am looking for

    Thoughts and ideas?

    The traction loss lazy susan should go at the front. If you place it under the chair the effect would be yaw, which is a different force altogether.

    If you go with a compact design use @bsft's brilliant desk racer as a basis and give it as much leverage as the seat allows by having the front bar as far forward as possible and the mount point above the COG: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/marketplace/desk-racer-2-dof.91/

    After a short hiatus I have returned ...
    I was patiently waiting for a friend to help with the basic metal frame work and Im still waiting so now I wait no longer

    Having been continuously reading these forum I have learned a great deal and copied down many tips & hints - many regulars are still providing knowledge regularly and I thank you all in advance
    Living in a unit in Sydney I don't have the space or garage to tinker away in my spare time

    My plan is to have a local metal shop make my frame.
    Then I will use wood across the top to install motors and electronics as I am not a handyman. In my mind this will allow me to tinker within the limited arena that I have at home

    My preferred simulator would be similar to @bretthorton Obutto Revolution 2DOF + Traction Loss example.
    I have watched @nickmoxley show his examples too though I would like to use my RSeat subframe in my version 1 build and bretts design is closest to my outcome.
    As a side note @noorbeast I wish I had your skills and work space - your compact DX Racer is a work of art

    My plan would be to use a similar design to @bretthorton though I was looking at using these casters welded to the bottom frame facing upwards - similar position to bretts design https://www.omnitrack.com/au/medium-duty/mf-series-bottom-flange.html?___store=au_metric
    Would these do or is it better to have casters welded to the top of the frame facing down

    I will still follow the JRK route as I am not a programmer

    Questions to help refine my design

    • Traction loss - different designs in different locations. Benefits, risks as @bretthorton has his mid/rear frame
    • Seat frames - some have seats sitting on a frame, others like @Blame73 have arms screwed into seat. I think screwed in would give more accurate feedback, thought?
    • Wiring - I can follow guides though different builds use different gauge wires (awg??) Unsure what wire to use motors - jrk - hall pots
    Also I have been slowly buying my supplies while I have been away

    My plan would is to have the frame made early Feb 2017 and the sim up and running soon after that.

    The higher you mount the levers - shoulders height is the ideal - the longer the levers the more accurate is the feedback.

    Maybe you forgot a seat in your list. It's always good to have one! :D

    Oops seems like you have an rseat base, sorry I forgot the glasses...

    The castors carry a fair load and the ones you linked looked to be expensive, so cost may be an issue.

    Castors mid and rear help spread the load.

    For pots I used some three strand RC servo wire I had lying around.

    Apologies for the others for my links / username links didn't wok

    @Blame73 I have my seat from Rseat from that I will use initially, version 2 or 3 will see that upgraded.
    Would just like motion at this stage as I have been very patient waiting in the wings. I do like your Sparco pro seat though

    @noorbeast Thank you as always from your direction. I will buy some wire soon and pre wire my power supplies & pots
    As for the linked casters I can procure these if suitable. Durability is my goal with my lack of technical know how and available space to make my life harder
    My concern was the casters being mounted with the weight bearing down onto them whereas most designs I have noticed had the caster attached to th e top facing down

    I've ordered JRK, pots and motor brackets

    Plan still to have frame made Feb
    I have drawn a plan though I was unable to work Sketchup ... Will keep trying

    I found these in Bunnings - M12 x 160mm Anchor studs - would these work as my main shaft through the worm gear motors? Nylon Lock nuts would follow if suitable
