    Hello everybody,

My dad and I want to build a motion simulator but have little to no experience with this type of "engineering".
Most of the things we found out mainly by research and help from @noorbeast but there are still some things that remain unclear.
    Potentiometers.
What are they for, which ones are good and how do I mount them.

    Thanks in advance, Mathis.

    AC motor, Motion platform
Pots are required for positional Feedback - basically to turn a standard motor into a 'Servo' motor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servomotor. What type/how to mount - depends on what type of sim you are building - Have a look in the project area - plenty of examples.

I also strongly recommend hall effect sensors, e.g. from Farnell. They are much more accurate, more sensitive and quicker than conventional carbon potentiometers. Replacing the carbon pots with Hall sensors was a leap-frog of the quality of the movement on my sim!
