The Australian retail price of the Vive, from the Microsoft store, is already down to a bargain price of AU $1,009.00 incl. GST, free delivery and free returns: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/pdp/HTC-Vive/productID.1925804100

The Vive is pretty much shipping on order now, while the Rift still has significant pre-order backlogs.

That's handy I'm planning on getting another one plus a couple of 1070's

I am somewhat surprised at the significant cost difference between pre-orders and retail, given HTC needs to make a profit somewhere.

Looking at that again I have a sneaky suspicion that they may have made a mistake on that price because isn't the Vive US$1009 before shipping? Perhaps someone at the Microsoft Store assumed it was Australian Dollars.
    Hopefully wrong though.

If they publicly list it at that price then that is what they are obliged to sell it at, irrespective of it being a mistake or not.

Probably me just being a pessimist. :) Seems the cost of entry to VR is getting cheaper quite quickly, what with that and the 1070 being around US$400.

Yes, and this is still the first generation of hardware.

If you've gone back to the first iphone it is terrible in contrast to a 6. It didn't have apps and everything took forever to load.

I got my Vive a few days ago and can't wait to see what the next gen has in store :D
