Hi all, I'm a new member. I live in Argentina. I'm a pilot and I am passionate on aerobatics.
I'm interested in building a 6DOF motion simulator to simulate aerial acrobatics. Not sure if it possible to simulate the large accelerations that occur in an aerobatic flight at a reasonably low cost. That's my goal and I am attentive to any information, advice or suggestion. Thanks.

    Welcome @Delta Alfa Mike.

A 6DOF is not exactly simple or cheap as an initial project, but here is a good place to start researching current 6DOF member projects: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/6dof.22/category

Outside of a centrifuge all simulators exploit weaknesses in human perception to trick the brain regarding simulations, rather than actually replicating forces. Most sims can only momentarily generate a bit over 2Gs, nowhere near the sustained 5-10Gs you can actually get in a combat plane or F1 race car.

Good luck with your 6DOF aerobatic project.

Yes, I know i ' m ambitious but that is the challenge. I would like to reach 3 or 4G in a real scale sim. At least i ll try to do something to scale, may be like a mini robotic arm. Here you´ve an real example

The budget to fully replicate the Deakin sim would be in the millions @Delta Alfa Mike.

Hi my name is Dutch I'm very intrested in flysims and early F1 (before the spoilers) and leMans during the Porche 917, Lola, Ford GT40 period. I do not like the modern cars nor the insects you will see right now in the F1.
I hope one day I can affort a good racing gear. The game I have are mostly combat fly sims, like Clod, Bos, il2-1946, OFF, Firsteagles and where it all started RB3d.
Right now I'm playing WW1 games Woff and RoF.
I hope to get here more info about what all the downloads are doing to a game like Clod, still can not find what it is being improved.
The main reason for being here, is that I want to build an ventilator system that revs up when the plane speed is increased and revs down when the speed of the plane is reduced. Did read some topics about using the arduino, but still do not know how to detect which signal from the game engine is responseble for the speed. But I hope members can help me inhere.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

I stumbled on this site after trying to figure out how to build a set up for my new gaming wheel and pedals for my xbox one.

After reading through some of the examples and other items through the FAQ I am EXTREMELY interested in trying to set up a full simulation machine.

I am thinking a 2DOF instrument possibly with traction loose using just the seat as the moving instrument seems to be the best route for me.

I am particularly interested in the tools that allow for a virtual simulation (i.e Sketchup Plug in) of the racing seat and its movements.

    Thank you,

    Welcome @Body311.

Generally speaking the SimTools plugins are made for PC games, though one for Project Cars does support consoles.

You can hook SimTools up to Sketchup and use an actual game to drive your design model, see here for instructions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/how-to-animate-sketchup-3d-model-with-simtools.209/

Hello, my name is Rodrigo, I am starting this week with my project for a 2dof and I've read a lot this week, I'm starting from 0, now buy a g27, made a few electronic components yesterday, a RPM meter and one LED 7-segment for the gearshifts, hope next week to buy the chair and engines. greetings from Chile

Hey guys wow!!! so much information. My name is Brian I am brand new to all of this my son is on the rise in the karting scene, but the problem I have is I work alot so not a lot of seat time at the track. At the moment we only have g27 and pedal set had it on the desktop as you all know that is just painful. Next I just mounted them on an spare kart chassis but not that great because that means I cant drive hahaha. but pedal cofig doesnt work in the kart chassis anyway. G27 is ok but pedals have no feel, as I mainly want a rig that will improve his racing i.e fine brake and throttle control the feeling of the braking and the feeling of the loss of traction out of a corner. I am a boilermaker welder so the fabrication of a frame is not the problem the problem for me is that I have read some great builds on here but dont know were to start. Software and controlers is were I dont have a clue please help!!! Is it worth keeping the G27 wheel and change pedals or just respring them. Can I build a 2DOF first then add 3DOF later. Dont know actuators or 12v worm drive dc motors looking for predictable smooth response not wild over the and over the top as I have seen on some utube clips. I want to build the rig right the first time or at least in planed stages. So any helping hand in the right direction would be greatly appreciated thanks

    Welcome @Hotter.

The G27 is a good entry wheel. You can mod the pedals, buy commercial alternatives or build your own: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/race-pedals.61/

Yes you can start with a 2DOF and upgrade to 3DOF or 2DOF+traction loss. Have a look at existing member builds, that may help you refine your own ideas: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

In Australia we have access to quality relatively low cost high power DC motors from Motion Dynamics, which I and many other Aussies use, they are available in 25:1, 50:1 and 60:1: https://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motor-12v-24v-200w-180-rpm-20nm-torque.html

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduinos and Motor Monsters and more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

The best thing you can do to get going is to start your own project thread here, then you can kick around ideas and seek member input: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/
