Last year I started a thread for my project to convert my Frex 2dof to 2dof + traction loss

    http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/simtools-2dof-with-tl-scn5-simvibe.6927/

Earlier this year I resume my project and want to try out a 6dof setup. I bought extra parts and linear actuators from Frex and built a base 4dof (Frex Quadmotion) for heave + pitch + roll + traction loss (yaw) and on top of it DIY a 2dof platform for surge + sway. Below is my progress so far:

    The six scn actuators including 3 scn6, 2 scn5 and 1 scn5 rodless
    IMG_0367.JPG

The base is strengthened with frame parts and added carrying mounts so that the whole setup can be relocated if needed
    IMG_0371.JPG

Triangular base frame with 3 scn6 installed
    IMG_0395.JPG

    2 x 24Vdc & 1 x 48Vdc transformers for driving all 6 scn

Video showing initialization of scn in Simtools

The background noise is from the fan on the Meanwell 48Vdc transformer, really noisy

My coming tasks will be reconnecting the triple screens, steering wheels, etc and then set up the profiles to test some sims. Questions and comments are welcome.

I will be looking forward to seeing the end result.

But I think it's a little slow to response with data from main board.

The actuators are just going through internal setup/initialization.

Maybe set up percent motion of each axis at axis assignment? will you reduce motion of each axis?

Nice build :thumbs. IMO the squeaking noise from all the stepper motors could get annoying once in use - maybe use noise cancellation headphones:think, or just big speakers..:).

Looks very impressive. Don't you think the pedals will have to move with the seat?
Noise may be an issue though. Looking forward to seeing this thing completed and in action.

Very much looking forward to seeing the Surge/Sway table in action. Curious what is the seat sitting and sliding on the plexi ?

Hi, I prefer 'seat move only' setup due to the short moving range of the linear actuators.

Hi, the surge-sway table is sliding on acrylic boards, I also tried granite boards and found both work fine but granites are much heavier so I am using acrylics right now.

Hope I can set up the profiles and test out some sims this weekend.

    Hi,

that is impressive and that gave me the idea to build that one too. I have a question: would you tell me, what the pieces are that you attached at the SCN5 the red/green glide pieces? Where did you find that?

IMO if this is going to be a seat mover, then I think that the amount of movement available may be an issue with stationary pedals/controls.

Hi, the rail blocks & rails are manufactured by HIWIN, a company in Taiwan:

thanks a lot for that. i am really looking forward to see how this will work all together with a driving :) I will build such a thing for sure, using simtools.

    are these SCN5 100mm and the SCLG5 also 100mm?

Great platform, I have been watching the video over and over. How did you come across the idea of building the surge/sway platform with the actuators situated like they are? I am working on a build that just moves the bottom of a seat. Is there somewhere you used as an example / is there a specific name for this type of platform that could help my research.

    Thanks so much!
