IMHO (after building a few things the last few years) I suggest (tendentiously with regard to the poll :p) to do/buy/build the following things in the suggested right order (from high to low priority):

    1) OpenSimWheel or any high end DDWheel
    2) Pedals (high professionell hydraulic pedals with load cell)
    3) Motion Sim up to 6DOF (seat mover or motion platform)
    4) Shifter/Handbrake (hydraulic etc.)
    5) Bass shakers (SimTools 2 or SimVIBE etc. )
    6) Triples (3D Vision) min. 50"/ VR (new for 2016)
    7) all other stuff like dashboard, wind simulator...

All other suggestions and comments are welcome :)

IMO I would suggest this order which is more progressive in costs
    just my 2cts :)

    1) Pedals (high professionell hydraulic pedals with load cell) 200€
    2) Shifter + Handbrake (hydraulic etc.) 100+100€
    3) Triples 700€
    4) OpenSimWheel or any high end DDWheel 1000€
    5) Motion Sim up to 6DOF (seat mover or motion platform) 2000€
    6) Bass shakers (SimTools 2 or SimVIBE etc. )
    7) all other stuff like dashboard, wind simulator...

I came to simulation and eventually motion via VR, so my path has been different.

VR - First gen: focus on optimising the graphics pipline, second gen: experimenting with supporting immersive technology (the following 5), consumer gen: VR uses outside of gaming.
    • Leap Motion
    • Surround Sound
    • Wheel, Pedals, Shifters, HOTAS and Buttkicker + static rig
    • Motion Simulator, emphasis on the haptics
    • Haptic related projects like race harness

Being VR oriented I have never considered Triples, I do have Android based dash and flight sim apps but would never consider a custom dashboard as it is irrelevant for VR.

I have toyed with the idea of doing a Wind Simulator but other VR related projects are far more important to me so it will likely never happen.

IMO the most important on the list is the simulator, as this is what brought me to this forum in the first place.
I didn't have a static rig which I then converted, I bought a static rig to convert. So for me, motion first.
    1) Motion simulator
    2) VR
    3) FFB wheel/pedals
    4) Hotas/flights stick
    5) Haptics

thank you for your suggestions. NTL keep in mind that the header "high end race simulator" should advice hq racers and not simulation in generally speaking. VR is very immersive but imo not sufficient from the view of real racing.

I have to beg to differ, there's nothing like being cocooned inside the VR world and looking into the apex of corners and looking to your left and right to see where the opponents are.

I still have triples and its just not a patch on VR, but that is only my opinion which isn't worth much :p

I wish I had more time to play and get into proper racing but without Asseto Corsa and DirtRally being VR yet I will have to wait, pCars is fun but its not great.

Hopefully I can finish this stupid GTA5 plugin before VR comes to them.

    1) OpenSimWheel or any high end DDWheel
    2) Pedals (high professionell hydraulic pedals with load cell)
    3) Shifter/Handbrake (hydraulic etc.)

Everything else is not required or I already have ;)

edit: That's my wish list not yours lol I should of read your first post properly :D

At the moment i only have a static rig.
I chose a g27 to start racing. then went triples then went CP2 pedals then t300 and added sim vibe and TH8A shifter then OSW then HE Pro pedals and DSD seq Shifter. Now I'm Building motion.

If i had my time again g27 then triples, DSD shifter then HE pro pedals then OSW. I cant comment on motion i dont have it yet.

    Cheers

Since the question is "high end" I would have to say a motion simulator. I obviously already had a computer with games. I had a good but not expensive ff wheel and pedals too. But while I enjoyed flight titles, I really never got into racing titles.
I built my simulator for flight. But after racing on it I found I now enjoyed that even more than flight with motion. Now I hardly ever fire up flight or other games and spend most of my time racing with many different titles. And my old inexpensive Logitech Momo Force (the red one) really shines now when some motion is added too.

I think this poll may be a little biased since we are on a community forum dedicated to motion simulators. :)

I voted for a DD wheel first. I think that a good wheel coupled with a solid of pedals next can really help you become a more consistent driver, and motion for the most part (minus maybe traction loss) is really there for immersion.
