@cruzebabuze you should bother to read more of any thread you post in. I purchased one from Ebay, this is revealed several posts below the one that you quoted.

@Historiker I did notice the simtools tester ribbon changed on your profile. Does this mean a release is close? This is exciting if it is. sry just wet myself a little...........

My new 3D printer arrived yesterday. I have to admit that I am impressed with the hardware. It took about 4 hours to assemble and of course another 4 hours for me to learn how to use it :)

Although I am impressed with the printer itself I am not at impressed with the documentation. There is no assembly directions other than a poorly recorded video what shows assembling the clear parts on a white background....and of course the person doing the assembly makes many mistakes and then fixes them....so you go along with her making the same mistakes, lol.

I could not get my windows 10 laptop to recognize the printer so I used Ubuntu (Linux) instead (I have it set to dual boot). Once I had some great advice from Bruce I was able to calibrate the bed and hot end and I was up and running. I created my first item....a 1cm x 1cm cube! It is a lovely cube....I am going to name it Cubical (Cubi for short).

Forgive the wiring mess, it is my nature (although I will clean it up when I move the printer down to the man cave).

My second print is this little gear I found online.

Thanks again Bruce for your suggestions and advice, it resulted in finding/buying/using a great little printer. :D

Hi @Historiker :) Welcome to the Club, be prepared to spend the next few days just printing stuff for the sake of it LOL, these machines are amazing to watch even though if you have a cnc machine then you know what to expect ...
The next stage will designing bits from scratch, not sure what sof, tware most guys here use, but a guess a quick straw poll would supply the answer ,

Have fun and get the stuff to t he man cave ASAP you only use up so many points with the Wife before they Turn LOL ...

My wife agrees that the printer should stay up here in the office next to our two traditional printers. :)

I use a student edition [from the college I work at] of Solidworks, took me a few years but I am getting more and more comfortable with it. I used to do a great deal of 2D work for scratch building scale R/C airplanes.

I do wish that I had had the free time to build my own 3D printer from scratch. It would have been enjoyable and I would have learned a great deal more about the software/electronics side of the hobby.

On 3D cad software. I have been using Solidworks but the educational licence is expensive and annual.

I did check out Sketchup and it is ok but some simple functionality is not there even in the Pro version. With Solidworks I can click and Fillett or Chamfer, the method with Sketchup is convoluted. And as Bruce mentions above to export with the free version you have to install a 3rd party script (which works very well).

Today I found that Autodesk (Makers of Autocad) have a free 3D design software called Autodesk 123D Design which has the same functionality that I was used to with Solidworks (nowhere near as powerful but I do not need those features anyway). It is very easy to use and did I mention free? It also easily outputs many common file types including DXF and STL. There is also a 3D printer interface software (also free) so you can go directly from your drawing to your printer. I have not yet tried this app though.

Hi Guys Signed up to Fusion 360 , Autodesk Full Function 3d modelling Cad package with CAM and 3d Printer output , Appaerntly if your a hobbyist or commercial business with turnover of less than $x you get to use the software free, its cloud based but hell who am I to bitch .. I think I can live with that minor issue LOL .. Actually used Inventor 10 to create my 1st STL file and was able to import it straight to CURA ,Model generated in seconds and printed in 25 Mins WOW

Quality spot on , my only issue was the hole was little smaller than drawing spec 11mm diameter actually measured 10.9mm , would not have been an issue but the design had a location key designed in the hole so will try to scale it up a fraction to see if that fixes the issue,,

Considering that the only thing I have done is level the bed , im pretty impressed with these machines .. sketch to model to G Code to finished article in less than hour ...... and shaped which would be pain to machine from solid , Not Bad Not Bad at all :) -

Nice find! I signed up for Inventor Pro with an education license (free). It was a pretty easy transfer from Solidworks to Inventor.

Hi@historiker For me the first choice would have been that package because that's what I use at work , but could not get it because no one I know is a student any more :-(
I hoping Fusion 360 wont be too much of a change but on the face of it im seeing solidworks ( Bugger ) LOL I also have that at work on my PC as well but never made the transition and the Icon never get clicked unless im sent a solidworks model ( even then I import it to inventor LOL ) so always gravitate back to Inventor , Im not draughtsman / designer level user but can handle the projects I take on quite easily and so for me it get the job done..
    Cheers

@Nick Moxley Haven't used the Zortrax personally, but I'm hearing really good things about it. At $2K USD it isn't the cheapest printer out there, but the print quality is excellent. If you need a little bigger print size the Taz 5 is another good option in that price range.
