RFR steering wheel - direct drive by RacingMat

    I plan on using the IONI driver.

    So I would need a power supply that converts 120VAC to 48VDC?

    If I'm understanding correctly, the 48v will run to the IONI driver, and the IONI driver will feed 220VAC to the servo?

    Thanks for help! Trying to wrap my head around this before I start buying all the equipment.

    As racing mat said if you use the Argon you can use 220 or 120v. But you still need a small 24v power supply in addition.

    If you go with the IONI you will need an external power supply 120/240 input 48-50vdc output minimum 600 watts I recommend 800.

    If you are really interested in this project I would recommend joining iRacing even if only for the intro period. There is multiple threads on the topic.
    If you can read German or your browser can translate Virtual racing and of course the RFR French forum.

    RacingMat not trying to derail your thread but I wanted to mention the following.
    If it bothers you I will delete it.
    If you are in the USA I am now a dealer for Granite devices and can help you out.
    Well I can sell anywhere in the world, but for shipping purposes USA is better.

    the 48v will run to the IONI driver, and the IONI driver will feed what ever is needed in 3 phases to the servo!

    Did you test the current FW on the Core407? Would be interesting to know if it runs as it should..

    Thanks! I just received my F7 Discovery.. unfortunately a lot of pins are used by the integrated display, but AFAIK F4 and F7 should be pin-compatible. It would also be interesting because at some point it could make sense to replace the F4Disco by a custom board featuring the F4 cpu..

    Great tutorial @RacingMat !
    I just discovered this DIY wheel and it seems to me like a better alternative than commercial direct drive wheels!
    Cheaper and you get a chance to learn something new while building it :)

    Wish I had seen this before ordering the csw v2.
    Ah well, I think I'll be happy with it for now but
    this is definitely an alternative when upgrading my rig in the future! :)

    Somebody looking for a like new csw v2 with bmw m3 gt2 rim? :grin

    Hi,@RacingMat,i have a question ,can you give me a help.
    I see a picture in the Anschluss.zip profile which download form virtualracing.org . is this the 4 ways to control different motors?
    is the first one for a servo motors whit a drive by a DC Psu,like the VSD-E?
    second for the DC motors with a H-bridge?
    and what about the last two?
    Can the third one used for a stepmotor?

    the third is for DC motors with HBridge with two pins for direction

    the fourth SV PWM is for AC motors

    I am talking with Lisa, from MIGE, to buy the servomotor, and wnat to buy a servo driver from the Argon distribuitor in USA.
    I thought about using another set of servo , motor and driver , available here in Brazil , but I preferred to use the Mige and argon together to have a Comparable with the experiences of other users.

    A hard work, and a long time in the horizon.

    @Mo165 : as said in the first post, OSW is the name of the firmware of Bberger which I don't use

    Here is the list of known "Direct Drive Wheel":
    my first one was based on Mizoo firmware + LPC pack (2011) on racingfr.com RFR forum
    my second with MMos firmware + SMT Disco or Core (2014)
    at the moment, there is a beta Arduino firmware + Leonardo (2015)​

    Each firmware manages some game effects or not (constant, spring...). I have not dug completely this matter (i'm only enjoying!)
    This is what makes a game compatible or not...

    - Ai-wave Leonardo firmware is the most complete
    it manages Friction, Spring, Damper, Sine, Constant force, Ramp, Square, Triangle, SawtoothUp, SawtoothDown, Inertia

    - MMos manages less effects but it's really good!

    - OSW, I dunno

    - Mizoo: no damping​

    Personnaly, I play with AC, R3E, Dirt and Dirt Rally
