    Hi everyone!

I've started to develop universal motion simulator & gaming chair cause I couldn't find suitable solution for myself.

Primarily it's because of high price or insufficient characteristics of existing devices.

Project codename [IMG] is 'FEEL-VR' and it is a 2 degrees of freedom seat for gamer that will change pitch and roll to use gravity force and make player feel accelerations, vibrations and angular velocities taken from virtual reality simulation games.

Hope I'll be able to reproduce device to make it available for everyone else, who dreams of affordable yet professional home motion sim, like me)

    My main goals are:

    • to make it cost less 2500$

    • silent operation

    • high performance and tilt angles

    • highly ergonomical and configurable for racing/flight/etc simulators

    • support for mainstream gaming manipulators

    • support for VR headsets

    • make it look amazing)

    That's how it would look:

Hope you like the project so far.

    Cool concept drawings.

    Just some questions and observations.

Have you checked out the licensing requirements for commercial use of SimTools or other motion software?

Support for VR headsets with motion sims really means motion cancellation, have you researched that and how do you propose supporting a resolution?

Silent, high performance and tilt angles all depend on design and hardware, I suspect that AC VFDs would be the way to go for a compact design with potentially large weight loads, is that what you have in mind?

I suspect that the $2500 price point will become competitive with Playseat and Next Level Racing Motion Simulators eying that sort of consumer territory. So what do you see as your competitive advantage?

I was wondering when you were going to pop up @Den Krutko
I take it you have not had much response for the other threads you created in other forums

Oh and heres what Atomic had to say about the threads, as your design "resembles" their A1 , A2
    "
Thanks for the info - we'll keep an eye on this project, at this stage
it's not of particular concern as we have patents and design rights on
our product in the UK and US (also it is far more difficult to build
such a system and make it commercially viable than it would appear this
individual realises! ;) We have other system choices coming soon to
suit various budgets, details of these will be made available soon.

I would be interested in what Atomic claims as patents and design rights. I am not surprised that they too are seeing a growing commercial demand for consumer level motion sims.

Currently I'm going to use own software. The only thing I'm interested in SimTools are game plugins, and I'll dig into this theme later.

VR headsets mostly use gyro data about head pivot, accelerometer data is used mainly to compensate gyro drift, so motion will not affect it strongly.

I'm developing custom electronics for torque motor 1000W 35 Nm each, that have 262k discretes per revolution feedback.

Tilt and roll angles up to +/-15 degrees or even more; gearless = silent, responsive, backlash-free; highly ergonomical design, configurable for every user and sim type; look.

@Den Krutko , to use simtools plugins you will still need to ask for permission , @yobuddy , can you clarify this please?

Yes, that's obvious. I'll read license etc later when I'll come to need of using SimTools (if would)

This is a FEEL-VR seat base with table and foot stand.

It is collapsible to take less space.

Central tube is firmly fixed with knob from rotational and linear movements.

Table is detachable for flight-sim configurations of FEEL-VR.

Angle of foot stand can be smoothly adjusted.

Distance from seat base to foot stand can be smoothly adjusted too up to full collapsed state (to take less space when FEEL-VR is not in use).

I think you underestimate the proper integration of VR with motion simulation, particularly with respect to large and very fast axis movements, here is an outline of some of the challenges from the FAQs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/virtual-reality-and-motion-simulators.115/

Really like the design but i wonder if it is strong enough to not self adjust itself so to say, myself i came to that problem when I tried to upgrade to a new steering and pedals set (T500) wich are much heavier then my old G25, i had to redo a lot of things to make it work and to cope with the heavy weight of the T500' like the balance point and so on.
I would think its a very hard task to make an universal good balanced and real like moving simulator design to fit all of the differentpedals and wheels !
P.S a small word of advice.....ask permission if you use an idea or a program or just a piece of simtools ! That is a normal thing to do not ????
I can not think of doing without it now I know how wonderfull it is and what a great comunity behind it :thumbs
Anyway i wish you all the luck in building, :cheers

I found the same thing as @Al.Bundy, controller weight greatly affects the COG and both loaded and unloaded states need consideration. The alternatives are to have an adjustment for COG or throw plenty of power at an unbalanced rig to compensate, which is not very efficient nor cost effective.

Concerning COG: I'll use 1000w 35 Nm motors, which are capable of 70 kg push force when recalculated with crankshaft. Also there will be compensatings springs, so I don't see real problem with COG and it's adjustment. Power consumption will be IMHO 10-20% more than balanced, but usability of such system when you don't have to readjust for different riders and gear is much higher.

Concerning VR headset integration - I'll dig into this when I'll have a prototype to test with.
Thanks for support, looks like here is much of valuable info and great community, but concerning permissions - I don't currenty plan to use SimTools software at all for this project, and discovered this forum a week ago)
So everything I did is not concerned with it yet. So can't figure out of what kind of permissions are everybody talking?

This is a FEEL-VR assembled top part in different configurations.

Angles and height of central and side tables (stands) can be smoothly adjusted.

Whole side table stands (including tube) can be adjusted forward-backward.

You have been made aware that some of your original intentions would infringe licensing, such as with respect to motion plugins. In addition the forum information here is covered by the CC license and, as you have already found, you have already benefited from that advice and information: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/community-etiquette.82/
