    I have tuned Surge and sway following your method, they were and are the most Important forces to me. They were actually for awhile the only forces I used, until I just "threw" roll, pitch and heave in, it is maybe time to try to do them properly. I just got used to the behavior and got blind to the errors in movement.
    Thanks, tittle bothers me too, actually. it says "Completed", although I've realized that these things are never completed... :)

    So, thread "2dof Beginner Rig Completed" is from now on "Building Journey of "Crate" Racing Cockpit".

    Now, I was going to record that video digging into this Heave problem and a strange fact revealed: I had no heave at all with current settings! Which were: Engine dof percentages all 90%, axis limitting all 60%
    Game Manager Main Level 90%

    Tuning Center values: Roll 25, -25, Pitch 25, -25, Heave 10, -10, Sway 6, -6 Surge 1,5, -1,5.

    I changed all dof percentages from 90% to 50% to have some head room, kept axis limiting 60% and raised Game Manager Main Level to 100% for it seems it is slowing things down if reduced from 100.

    I tried to took Heave down to 1, -1 on tuning center and it gave me some movement (just heave enabled in Simtools), mostly when crashing on wall and occassionally on the road, but seemed it had very little to do with the car. It did not allow me to put values under 1 on heave for some reason. And now it just feels I'm just screwing up something that I was allready happy with... I might remove heave (again) completely and keep things simple.

    If you uncheck the box that links the upper and lower settings you can manually enter values less than 1. On one setting I have heave at 0.001 with something like 20% in simtool. So don't be surprised if it is a low value.

    Scratch, approximately how much metal did you need for the cage?
    I'am thinking about 9 meters just to be safe. Do you have a number infront of you?

    I don't remember exactly how much I used, but I mainly bought 30x30mm tube for base, pedalstand and wheelstand, 25x25mm tube and 16mm round tube mainly for seat cage, 6 meter all of those. Additionally I used 6ox30 tube about 2 meters. And 30x30 tube was running out if I remember correctly. But I used metal like a maniac, wanted it to be rock solid.

    I use a method @eaorobbie taught me.
    Game manager level stays at 100%. The only time I lower it is for a non motion sim user, anything down to 90% or I take off a bit for myself. Like in Assetto Corsa, I reduce main level from 100 down to 95 for some of the open wheeler cars. Makes driving a bit more manageable.
    I start with one force at a time. I set it to 20% , I get the motor moving in the right direction, then I work with tuning centre number.
    In the case of heave, yes I go down to 0.01 if needed. I find if I dont feel much of that force, I raise the percentage of that force up. I think my Dirt3 heave, for example is about 30% at 0.5 as, for me, thats where I found a good feel on my ride.
    The rest of my forces, add up to over 100% of the total forces, but its fine.
    Not sure why Simtools guys recommend we keep our total percentages of the forces at 100 total. Mine are always higher total, but using the 20% start method for each force is what I base my document on for writing profiles.

    @Greg83 , amount of steel with depend of what sort of frame you want.
    Desk racer on its own I used a bit under 6m total length 25 and 30mm box steel.
    Rear seat mover consumed 10m, not including rest of frame.

    I love the solution made by Scratch, the only thing I would like to update on it that the seat holder cage would be longer on my version to hold the wheel and the pedals.
    Or would that weight make the whole motion experience worse?

    Oh dear, I have missed one BIG point regarding Simtools settings... You said that total amount of forces should not be above 100%, well, like I said earlier, I had them ALL at 90%. I had it all wrong. I knew that we should start from the 20% per effect, but somehow I missed the point why. Thank you @bsft very much for making it clear now! I wonder how on earth I have not come across this matter earlier. I'm starting from scratch with Simtools settings now.

    That is one of the first tutorials on xsimulator I've read, it explains all aspects of 2dof wiper Arduino simulator build very clearly. I based heavily on that tutorial when building this sim, thanks again RacingMat for that great article!

    Also, @bsft wrote very detailed comparison between seatmover and full frame on the first page of this thread, based on that I made the decision to go for seatmover.

    And I'm very happy I did! Would've been impossible to add later additions this easily, meaning the dashboard, shifter, etc.

    Now I have somewhat "repaired" settings and all effects percentage together is 100, not 450% like before... :blush I raised axis limiting to 95%. I have generally more stuff going on, but still heave is not what it should be I guess. I get shaking when off road and occasionally on the road, usually on the curbs (entering and getting off), but it is not consistent. I noticed that on iRacing heave is hovering around 1 when car is not moving so I guess that is "zero". And putting in something like 1.1 gave me the best effect sofar. If I got lower than that (by shutting down iRacing and then editing value in tuning center, otherwise it always reset back around 1), It gave me almost no shakes at all. I woudn't dare to blame heave data coming out of iRacing, but other effects work ok, and other effects "zero" is actually zero... :think

    But my cheap pots show their inaccuracy quite well, I have quite a big dead zone in my rigs movement and very fine transitions are impossible to output, so this might be the best my rig can do at this point.

    @Scratch I just looked up pots at my local store and there is a shitload of them. Do you recon I should get a bigger than your 10K one?
    Any other specs I should watch out for like degree of turn etc?

    I have heard stories about setting iracing heave, so not sure there.
    You are using wiper motors right and cheap pots?
    More expensive pots may help, but really, the larger 12v 200 watt 25:1 dc motor gearboxes with make a much bigger difference in motion.
    I recall another thread a while ago where the member couldnt get decent heave out of his rig and after watching several of ours in , he asked.
    4 of us replied and suggested things and he still couldnt get decent heave, until we found out what he was using.
    Wiper motors.
    The rest of us whom commented use motors that spin 3-4 times faster.

    Yes, I'm using wiper motors. And cheap pots, going through second set of them, first ones were ready for retirement couple of weeks ago. I'm planning to upgrade to those crab/sawmill motors some day, but for now, I will beat the crap out of these :D.

    5k-10k pots are fine, but if you want them to last long, look for cermet pots for example. I'm cheap and use very cheap ones, they need to be replaced regularly.

    Here is a tour around my rig, cold start and short drive at the end, all narrated with my very basic finnish english :grin I got my Symprojects Pro-Race SLI and it was the final piece of the puzzle, so there are no updates in sight for some time.

    I also counted how much I have actually paid for this rig and got very pleasant figure, under 1400€. Part list is added in the video description.
