If you could only choose a 3 DOF, would you pick the addition of heave, surge, or traction loss?

If it is mainly racing then go 3dof with traction loss and refine heave/surge in the profile settings.

Regarding traction loss, did you use a "lazy susan" bearing for the front pivot, or something more specialized? Would you still recommend a chain drive? A ballscrew is tempting as well, they can be found used on eBay pretty cheap. How much throw is required for good traction loss feel?

Thats a good question. I do like having an independent axis for heave, surge and traction loss as it just feels more realistic, but if I had to chose one, then it would be traction loss, as it gives you motion which you cannot simulate via an input to a 2DOF seat. I use a suitably sized load bearing lazy susan for mine. Chain drive has worked out OK, but a ballscrew may be better if setup right. I have around 300mm total movement, but you could get away with half of that if it is responsive enough, I rarely use more than 60% nowadays .

I just used a big front wheel bearing of a ford car I had lying around, it sure enough can handle all the weight, my chain drive works ok for now but time will tell how it will last....its all an adventure ;)

@moon310 why dont you stop complaining then and ask specific questions?
If you want a word for word build, go find @RacingMat post of his build

I just don't have the time or inclination to ever do a step by step on my build and as it has evolved from the original design, I do not think that some details of it may be the best solution if I had to build another. Also most builders use what they have easily available, so there often is no right or wrong in the many different builds that you can see on this site.

I for one deeply appreciate what you have shared @SeatTime, including some very innovative ideas and useful tips from your build...there is certainly nothing you need to justify to anyone :thumbs

    Thanks dualclick.
Even through my sim is working fine, just cannot help myself in developing stuff:). Some parts finally turned up for my actuator project. Will see if I end up using some or all of them - there are lots of ways to skin a cat.
