I've done quite a bit the the (NXP) LPCs, but noticed that the STMs are becoming quiet popular with peoples projects. From a developers standpoint, what do you think of the Discovery boards? They aren't expensive, I was thinking of picking up some, but was wondering what you thought of developing for them (ie. build environments, debugging, etc.).

The reason I'm asking first is I got burned by TI, turned into a huge waste of time. I wanted to make sure that STM didn't have the same gotchas. I don't want to find out I need thousands of dollars in dev tools just to finish a modest project, and then find out that even with the right tools, they are buggy beyond the description of nightmares.

While the NXP LPC 1768/1769 boards are cheap, the ones with multiple USB are very expensive, STMs aren't. I wouldn't mind jumping ships, just want to make sure that new ship floats. :)

    Hi Kirk!

what do you need to develop?
there is a firmware from Mizoo for LPC and firmwares from MMos and @bberger for STM :)

you intend to do your own firmware? jap.gif

Sorry for the confusion, it's not for a wheel, but rather to augment Rift gyro data.

My current one (using a LPC1769) doesn't have the distinct advantage of being able to truly implement the rift because of only one USB. All the data is being sent via ethernet (UDP/OSC/bonjour) with FreeRTOS as the base. It'd be nice to have it not require any PC side software via emulation of Rift HID.

Unfortunately, the NXPs that have dual USB cost more than my motors, while the STM has dual USB and is very cheap. That said, I have no experience with STM.

I tried to go TI, but that was a disaster. Very Cheap devices, but expensive and buggy development environment. Actually, I'd go as far as to say their environment is completely unusable and broken if you need to support multiple chips.

I really wish Arduinos had just a few more features (dual HID USB, and another interrupt line), I really love their environment. It's a very friendly environment, not too many bugs, cheap, and just works. It's amazing they've been able to do what the big guys completely fail at (to be fair, NXP is ok, but still a bit buggy on device detection at random times).

you're welcome! with this tutorial, it became as simple as IKEA building :D

and it is mostly applicable to many versions like MMos and @bberger as well!

@all: the recommended ms- 130st- m10015 oder ms- 130st- m10010 servo motors are all from China - if someone knows where to buy something similar in EU please post! Thank you.

Trying to source this in the US as well. Shipping cost is 130$..but Im thinking the cost of the motor in the US would be higher therefore offsetting the cost of shipping. W2 is here in February, this project is up next.

Aktuell versuche ich das T500RS zu verkaufen, falls es klappt dann baue ich mir das OSW.
At the moment I am going to sell my T500RS, if successful I will build the OSW. @value1: If I will place an order, do you like to take part of it? (CH - ZOLL)

The OSW wheel is my next stop too.
Was thinking about selling my Fanatec V1 and buying V2 or upgrade to Buhler motors, but I'm so temped for direct drive wheel and decided to go that way.

Unfortunately not any time soon, probably with beginning of summer..

Buhler's can get you to 12Nm with the proper Power supply and full cooling mod. $ for $ its debatable if you already have a CSW.

I did not find any information, it sounds very interesting! I like the T500RS, only the lack of the FBB in comparison with the high end wheels is weird, the latter I would prefer. Do you know where the power mod has been discussed?

Made the decision and ordered my new Mige motor! thats the start of the money hole! So excited for this. Just got my new sim motors to replace the old ones, more power, so this should be a project filled month!

@bberger are you certain the the ioni needs an expensive power supply? I'm thinking about just getting the argon but its over 600$ usd and there is so much wasted from that driver on this project.
