Here's the reason I'm building a sim rig:

    Project Cars though DK2 lens

Sure, the resolution could be better, but I owned a DK1, and loved it despite the issues. I sold it earlier this year, and I've missed it dearly, especially for racing.

@SeatTime could you ever go back to monitors?

I totally agree @Yoder_ there is nothing like the immersion of the Rift.

Project Cars is looking good and I believe the Assetto Corsa devs now have their DK2, so there should be more there as well.

I do not plan on having monitors for my new compact motion rig, which I will start on as soon as a few extra bits arrive. I do have an ultra short throw projector for it, for any non Rift display, but don't expect it will get much use once DK2 is supported by all major sim games.

I have pushed my poor old DK1 to its limits and enjoyed every bit of it. My DK2 is finally about to ship so I am guessing that will be my distraction for next week. I am a bit concerned that the latest SDK update does not detect my DK1 and others are reporting a similar issue with the DK2. I will be really peeved if the DK2 turns up and wont run on my sim rig.

Glad to hear it shipping, I know Oculus had some delays with Australia for whatever reason.

That is an understatement @Yoder_ . My order was 5am March 21.

The real problem is that Oculus has not communicated the real reasons for such delays. There was a recent customs issue, but that was in September and is no excuse for orders not to have been processed earlier and prioritized according to the pre-order dates.

It is no secret that I think real world product and customer management may well prove to be the Oculus Achilles heal, one Sony could easily capitalize on. Perhaps Oculus could get some tips from Sumsung regarding managing real world products.

All I seem to use a monitor for nowadays it for OBS and normal internet surfing. The part of the above video which you can see the screen door effect (eg. 0:51) is very representational of what you are actually seeing, although what no video will show is that this resolution is spreed across your whole field of view in a very realistic 3D. It is that feeling of really sitting in a race car that is VRs strong point irrespective of the screen resolution.
People can watch all the videos they like, but will never really know what it is like until they pull on a VR Display - I have had this response from everyone who has tried my system.

And with virtual desktop you have no reason to take the Rift off!
