Hello everyone! My name is Matt, and i'm in the US. I've never played video games but racing sims are my addiction. I want to build my first motion simulator ASAP and I have money set aside for it at the moment. Does anyone have good recommendations for parts suppliers in the states or what I should use for a 2dof build? I would like to avoid using SCN type actuators and the "wiper" designs seem to be more than adequate for a first build (though I would like to use much more robust motors). Would someone be so kind as to clue me in to the benefits and drawbacks of designs that move just the seat vs a whole cockpit? Is there a generally agreed upon path for control and power supplies if I want to have the least amount of programming work to do? I will be learning as I go so i'm trying to get the basics down on my first "simple" build and then once I have a foundation in the concepts I would like to add a yaw channel and upgrade from there. Im also 220lbs and I don't know if that will play a role in the design or motor/power criteria.

    Thanks!

Welcome @navarrma , big worm gears in a seatmover would be an easy start, and if you dont want to bugger with much wiring the extra dollars the Jrks cost compared to the Ard UNO out ways the pain of getting code and wiring write.
Here is a couple of pictures to warm you up.

P.S What you see there minus TV and G25 cost me $860 to make.

Excellent. Where should I look for the JRKS and what specs am I looking for as far as motors go and do you know a US equivalent of the motiondynamics wormgear motors that you recommend?

ill send you a PM of comparisons of sims, as for easy to get going, use these http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1393 , one per motor, 14v at 30 amps all day with heatsink and cooling, no code to write, simple PID, we can advise on that, 12v 200 watt big worm gear motors http://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motor-12v-24v-200w-180-rpm-20nm-torque.html gearboxes are tougher than ebay jobs. Gears on pots on back of motor shaft for feedback. Power supply can be car battery with PSU on it is good. I use that as well as 2 x 12v 40 amps power supplies. I have 2 sims. For your weight, unless you want to go boat winch motors to move a whole frame, a seat mover is a good start and doesnt need huge power to move it. so 12v 200 watt worm gears will do the job.
Please start a new thread here http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-building-q-a-faq.31/ and that way we can advise and point you in the right direction.
    Cheers, David.

F...K that was quick Rob, there are ebay daytons which are good motors and people use them. I have heard of a few user killing the gearbox on them, but that was from a incorrect design sim and too much load on motors.
