Question Questions about build process

    Hi, I'm new here, and by chance discovered this community while trying to research a retail motion sim to buy. While looking through here I have seen some 6d0f builds that have piqued my interest, however when scanning through their parts list I notice that most of the community here are based in the EU and thus have different power requirements.

    I think I would want to use DC motors because they seem the cheaper, and easier to deal with, and from what I am seeing, the Thanos controllers seem to be the easiest to configure. However I have couple of questions on motor selection.

    Running 6 DC motors for a stewart platform, for example, I would assume requires quite a beefy power supply (or multiple). I'm based on the U.S. so the most available outlets around our house are 120V/15A (so without having to lay some special power lines or switching breakers from the breaker box I'm capped at 1800W by default).

    1. What kind of movement speed for actuators or servos is considered acceptable and gives a good sim experience under normal load (meaning with the user on it)?
    2. Has anyone in the U.S. set up a 6dof stewart platform rig, and if so what motor, psu/electronics combo were used?

    Was browsing through the forums some more, and I see that there is another school of thought, so to speak, about tricking the brain to emulate g-forces. I find these g-seat builds interesting, especially some that are also providing motion to the control surfaces (pedals and steering wheel) by modulating their length from the user to provide a closer simulation to breaking and acceleration.

    Does anyone know how immersive do the g-seat builds compare to having a true 6d0f rig?
    Is it common to pair a motion seat rig, with g-seat capability as well. Does it add more realism or is it overkill at that point?

    Horses for courses, individually and combined. A motion rig with g-seat is a good combination in that a g-seat can do some simulation that even a 6DOF can't, such as a sustained force, but both a good individual options as well.
