Greetings everyone. I'm sharing the start of my project after getting inspiration from the members on this forum. Specifically I am using @Peacemaker105 simulator as a basis of design.

    Design fundamentals:
    • 80ST-M02430 with AASD15A servo driver
    • 1605 500mm Ballscrew
    • Thanos AMC-AASD15A controller
    • Numerous PETG 3D printed parts (downloaded and designed form scratch)
    • 10mm wall clear acrylic tube for the Ballscrew housing
    • T-Slot Aluminum Extrusion Base
    • Square Carbon-Fiber Tube frame for the motion platform
    • VR rather than screens
I started with the actuator to prove the concept and will be building 5 more of these now that I am satisfied with the results. I'm 3d printing the almost 24/7 at this point. I'm continuing to work on the base and the motion platform in the mean time.

Any tips, advice, questions are welcome!

Hi this looks good and i ponly have one personal observation , the Actautor Base Universail Joint looks to be 3D printed , If thats the case i really done see it lasting other than for unloaded actuator testing .. we Put a lot of faith in 3D prioted parts But for major load bearing Items i.e Universal joints with big defelction and Angled loads ( i Have my Doubts ref Layering integrity , Wall ccunt etc ).. if being used for big loads ( and these actuator will be throwing around 150+ Kgs i would think you need to beef that part up ... Just my 2 cents worth ( all else looks Ok ) Cheers

Thanks for the input. I struggled with the design of the base. The U joint itself is steel, it’s normally used for custom steering linkage fabrication. While not designed to be loadbearing, My thought process is that the load would be spread over six of these, obviously some would be more loaded than others at times. The two base plates are 3-D printed with sockets to accept the steel u joint. Final assembly will include structural adhesive to bond everything together.

Hi @Rick Bouchereau sorry my Bad :) i saw what looked like 3D printed base then noticed how thin the UJ support arms were and Hence my 2 Cents worth . Ok now seeing clearer picture i can relate to strength of that part and so providing the max angles are not exceeded yourf good to go :) Cheers and thnaks for posting your work , Def looking like good work nad Project in the making . Nice :)

I worked out the cockpit geometry today.

I mocked-up the base today with one actuator. My 3D printer is running 24/7 until the remaining actuators pieces are complete and assembled.

I’ve been looking at wiring diagrams for the 80ST - M02430 servos and drivers, the 220V scares me a bit it but it does look straightforward. I’ll probably get the @Thanos controller in the next few weeks in preparation of completing the actuators.

I have to say this forum is a wealth of information and keeps me motivated to keep moving even if I don’t have all the answers yet.

As it is a mockup, in the final design, try to make the base out of something with a bit of mass to it (steel, cement etc) or Dyno-bolt it to a cement floor.
