    Hi,

So I'm evaluating the idea of now building a linear actuator rig, instead of rotary.

Could I please get some comments on the below parts ?

Also, regarding balls screws. They can vary quite a bit on price. Is it worth considering TBI Motion or HiWin over the cheaper offering on Aliexpress ?
And is C7 good enough ? Given this isn't a CNC router we're building here...

OK, here are the basic parts list.

There are obviously tubes, nuts and bolts needed, but I want to get the basic parts for the design sorted first.

I was after a universal joint for the base also, but one that doesn't connect to a shaft, but bolts to a surface.
Not sure what to search for on this part.

    Regards
    Jamie

Don't know about the rest, but recommend a 1610 ballscrew for a 650 mm screw.

    Hi Jamie
With this motor you should defenetly go with 10mm pitch. They run much more quiet!
I also ordered some ballscrews from that promising company. Currently they are still in customs clearance, but expect them the next two weeks.
Regarding the linear bearing - dont go with ball bearing! - they are not necessary in this applikation and more noisy. Gu with plastic bearings like those from IGUS.

Wish you good luck with your project!

    Thanks for the reply.
Why don't people use 1610 for any size ? If the motor can push it, isn't the extra speed a good thing ?
Or is it a matter of trading resolution for speed at larger excursions ?

    Cheers
    Jamie

I think it was a carryover from when most used DC motors with less torque.

    Hey Wickie,
Thanks so much for your reply. Your build is amazing, and I had read through it, along with just about every 6dof design on this forum.
I didn't find if you found the TBI Motion screw quieter than the Chinese generic one ?

    I'm still undecided on design.
I am leaning towards Motion4sim's compact rotational hex design. But I must say, the sunken linear hexapod like yours is truly sexy!

I will mainly use for flight sim, but still want a high performing driving sim as well.
Watching this video Shows speed is great, and mostly quiet. (Something you have mentioned is important). But no room for sunken design. But does that even matter ? I'm hoping moving software can adjust the pivot point anyway ??

Thanks again for your suggestions. If I go linear I'll be sure to use 1610 and probably make my own delrin top bearing.

    Cheers
    Jamie

    Hi Jamie,
I compared a 1605 from TBImotion, a cheap chinese 1605 and a mid price range 1610 from Kamp&Kötter and a 1610 leadscrew with IGUS nut.
If we had a Ranking from 1 (super silent) - 10 (super noisy) I would give the following points:

    Chinese 1605 - 8 points
    TBI 1605 - 7 points
    Kamp&Kötter 1610 - 4
Leadscrew IGUS 1610 - 3 (no recomendation due to low efficiency. My motors failed to run them under load and gave no detail)

I personal will go for the 1610from china. Maybe they arrive this week !!!

    Thanks again Wickie!
I think I will go with 1610 600mm from China.

    Cheers
