hi first post. This is new to me but knew someone who was building his own flight sim about 25 years ago. I am a retired engineer who used to build large tesla coils for a special effect company. just been waiting for the tech to get cheaper. Now, this seems to happening I'm keen to get the pencil? ok laptop out and find some design parameters like actuator specs.

    Welcome @bob golding.

You have a great background for building a motion rig.

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion and the design sections: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

You can go through existing member projects for specific ideas or inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Or search for specific types of projects using the Google Custom Search function on the Recent page: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/find-new/posts?recent=1

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here, ask any questions you have there and detail your project progress: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

Hi Guys, my name is Pascal, i am a new member from germany. iam building a F-16 BLK 52 flight sim in full size cockpit and to that we are going to build a racing sim. for that we bought some years ago a hydraulic 6dof motion platform from bosch rexroth. it was used in 2000 on the expo in hannover. its still working but its missing the motion sim. i figured some things out and could get it working with some rc servos due an arduino. now we are looking for some software that we can extract data from the racing sim to our 6 dof. so, thats why i am here and i hope it will be a great time beeing part of this communitiy.

    many greets

    Pascal

Hi All, im a new member from NSW Australia. Im about half way through my second generation simulator build with my son and im starting to explore movement options. Thing is, our project is a little different from most. It involves the whole car. Unfortunately, this limits my options with respect to movement somewhat. Trying to move something with around 500kg per corner at a reasonable speed will be a bit challenging..... Not sure if I should be looking at linear actuators or maybe hydraulics, but it also has to operate on an off-grid solar system (energy efficient) as I don't have mains power where I live. So here I am....

I have all the pictures for a complete build thread so far. I have steering and most of the pedals sorted so they use the real car components and have the right feel. I have most of the gearbox side of things worked out as well (although that isnt quite finished yet).

I will start posting everything up soon for those that are intrigued.

    cheers

    dstocks

    Welcome @winch20010.

I had the pleasure of visiting Annecy when I was last in Europe, with Covid that seems like a lifetime ago, rather than a couple of years.

    Hi! New here; first post.

Me: old guy; technologies oriented; retired CFI; into WWI air combat sims since 1997; presently flying IL2-Flying Circus and P3D; recently received a Pro-Flight PUMA helicopter simulator, YAW VR motion platform, and SimX S-5 actuators and 3DOF electronics: not operational yet but hopefully soon.

My goal with the YAW is to get it to fly IL2-Flying Circus. I see there's a plug-in for IL2 Forgotten Battles and I'm hoping FC will also work with that. If not, I'd like to see if we can somehow make a Flying Circus plug-in happen.

My goal with the SimXperience components is a prototype 3-axis motion simulator for IL2 - Flying Circus and P3D. (Sim Commander does not presently work with IL2 but I'm told they are working on it.)

All contributions graciously and gratefully accepted! :)

    VBR,

    Pat

    Welcome @Pat Regan.

When you are ready please start a new thread in the Commercial sections and add all of your experimentation and questions there: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/commercial-simulators-and-peripherie.52/

You won't know until you try but I suspect IL2 Forgotten Battles likely won't work, as it is pointer based and any changes to those will break the plugin.

Likely your best bet is to use the generic Joystick plugin: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/joystick-plugin.6160/

See the FAQs on how to extend the Joystick plugin with vjoy: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...otion-plugin-and-vjoy-controller-mapping.387/

    Hello everyone !
    Adidyan from Lyon, France here.
I got interested in simulators a few months back, and I started to build my own simple 2DOF simulator. I will soon do a post about it in the forum :)
For a 1st sim rig, I was not looking for the most realistic simulator possible, but more like a fun and cheap (as much as possible) game.
There are a lot of valuable information in this community that helped me, so, thanks :)

Hello, my name is Günther and I come from Austria. I am interested in the flight simulators Xplane and FS2020 and I definitely fly with VR. For that I have to build a 3D or 6D motion platform.
